Planquery brings two distinct themes to your travel plans: historic buildings and fishing at the Étangs de Planquery. The architectural history spans from the choir of Église Saint-André, dating from the late 12th or early 13th century, to the 16th-century Château de Planquery. By the water, the length of your stay becomes a practical planning factor. If you are interested in Planquery, you can first weigh up whether cultural history or fishing should be the focus.

Château and defensive architecture

The Château de Planquery was built in the 16th century on the ruins of an earlier fortress. Two surviving towers probably date from an early fortified structure. Surviving loopholes and the former elevated entrance still recall its original defensive function. Together, these details reveal the château’s defensive side; the towers’ origins are still considered probable rather than certain.

Church and Templar commandery

The choir of Église Saint-André de Planquery dates from the late 12th or early 13th century. The church was built by Guillaume Bacon after his return from a crusade. In addition, numerous members of a family were laid to rest in the church. Saint-André therefore brings together various aspects of history: architecture dating to a specific period, a building history linked to an individual, and its role as a burial place.

In what is now the hamlet of Baugy, a Templar commandery with a chapel was founded in the 12th century; its remains are still preserved. The chapel of the Ancienne commanderie de Beaugy in Planquery is partially listed as a historic monument. It was listed by decree dated 10 April 1995. This date refers to its protected status, not to the time when the chapel was built.

The historical references can also be distinguished by period: the choir and commandery date back to the 12th century, while the château belongs to a later building phase in the 16th century. The towers’ association with an early fortified structure remains explicitly described as probable. Several periods and different building histories thus stand side by side without being conflated into a single building phase.

Fishing at the Étangs de Planquery

The Étangs de Planquery are located at Le Moulin Bacon in Planquery and consist of four ponds that are very rich in fish. Fishing is possible for half a day, a full day or in the evening. The half-day option is shorter than a full day, while the evening offers a separate time alternative. When planning your stay, you can therefore first decide how much time you want to spend fishing before adding other interests.

This means different planning questions come into play depending on your focus: architectural history involves periods, architecture and defensive function, while fishing lets you choose a specific duration. This distinction can help you shape your stay in Planquery around the themes that matter most to you.
