Le Manoir can be explored through buildings and local history spanning very different periods. The Église Saint-Pierre features Romanesque elements, several manor houses have their own building phases, and a milestone column is dated to Roman times based on its inscription. A bridge and a former mill site add to this cultural and historical picture. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the buildings: dates and alterations at the manor houses relate to different parts or periods in each case.

Church and Ancien manoir: Building phases and heritage protection

The main building phase of the Église Saint-Pierre dates to the 12th century. Romanesque features are found in the south wall of the nave, the choir, and the apse. The bell tower has been protected as a historic monument since October 29, 1926. The building phase, Romanesque elements, and protection status thus refer to different aspects of the same church—a useful distinction if you are interested in the development of a building.

The Ancien manoir is on Route de Vienne-en-Bessin in Le Manoir. Its main building phases date from the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. It has been protected as a historic monument since August 1, 1939, with the exception of the entrance gate. The dates refer to two building phases; the protection status explicitly excludes the entrance gate. This property therefore combines a multi-period building history with a clearly defined limit to its heritage protection.

Two manor houses, different histories

At Château de Beaupigny, the main residence dates to the 15th century. The history of the courtyard adds a different dimension: after the Second World War, it was transformed into an ornamental garden. The construction of the residence and the later changes to the courtyard thus sit side by side at this property. For a cultural and historical trip, this offers more than a single date: you can distinguish the building phase of a structure from the later development of its grounds.

Château du Manoir is a different property. An attached building on its east side bears the year 1765. The complex also includes a building from the former cider press and stables dating from the 16th or 17th century. Château du Manoir is privately owned and cannot be visited; check its visitor status again before your trip. The date on the eastern extension and the earlier dates for the press building and stables offer different clues to the history of the complex.

Bridge, mill, and a Roman trace

The Pont de l'Abbé Philippe crosses the Seulles on three basket-handle arches. The middle arch bears the year 1818. The date can therefore be assigned to a specific part of the bridge, while the three arches define its form. This offers a concrete glimpse of a different chapter in local history from the churches and manor houses.

The Borne milliaire du Manoir is dated to the fifth year of Emperor Claudius’s reign, or AD 46, based on its inscription. The object is a cast; the original is held at the Musée Baron Gérard in Bayeux. The mill site adds a different kind of reference point to this older trace: the Moulin à blé dit Moulin Turquois is on the D87 when coming from Bazenville. Today, only the remaining structure survives. These three details—the inscription, the original and cast, and what remains of the mill today—help distinguish the topics without presenting them as a single visit.

Compare specific offers and check whether each location suits your plans. The different historical themes give you a starting point for choosing where to stay; note that Château du Manoir is not open to visitors. This lets you take the cultural focus of your trip into account without assuming that every building mentioned can be visited.
