The Parc Archéo focuses on Neolithic finds and how they are presented to visitors. In Ifs, a heritage trail, a seasonal theatre programme and woodland leisure activities complement this archaeological focus. For planning your trip, the options differ mainly in their subject and format: archaeological interpretation, local history on a trail, an event date or outdoor activities.
Neolithic history at the Parc Archéo
The Parc Archéo was created on a protected site where several Neolithic tombs had been discovered; it was inaugurated in September 2022. The information building offers three ways to explore the subject: a chronological timeline, a display case with Neolithic objects and an animated film about life in that era. The timeline foregrounds the sequence of events, the display case shows specific objects, and the film focuses on life at the time. This means the Parc Archéo offers different approaches to the same Neolithic theme. These three elements make it easy to distinguish whether you prefer historical context, artefacts or a film presentation.
Wayfinding and digital content
Wayfinding at the Parc Archéo includes a tactile map in raised relief and Braille at the main entrance, as well as ground-level guide strips on the main paths. At the north entrance, an NFC chip provides access to a virtual tour. QR codes on the information panels link to virtual content featuring images, text, videos and audio guides. The site combines wayfinding features with digital media. The Parc Archéo thus brings together its exhibition elements, on-site wayfinding aids and digital content.
Heritage trail and theatre
The heritage trail starts in front of the town hall and features twelve panels with anecdotes, QR codes and an audio guide. This offers another cultural format alongside the Parc Archéo: here, the trail itself is the way into the subject, whereas at the Parc Archéo, the information building’s timeline, display case and film shape the interpretation. If you would rather explore local history on a themed walk than through exhibition displays, Ifs offers this alternative.
The municipal cultural season “Coups de théâtre” offers a different kind of event, with a set schedule. From October to April, it presents a play every fourth Friday in the François Mitterrand Hall. This makes it possible to plan around the theatre dates. As the exact programme may change from season to season, check the relevant dates and the play scheduled for your trip.
Leisure in the forest
The Grand parcours dans la forêt d’Ifs includes a children’s playground, a fitness park, a sports trail and a permanent orienteering course. The activities range from play and fitness to sport and orienteering. They offer a different focus from the historical themes of the Parc Archéo and the heritage trail: here, the emphasis is on outdoor leisure and exercise.
