Cordey can be explored as a destination for a stay through two main themes: historic buildings, and landscapes and routes. The Bois de Saint-André occupies the western part of the village; the parish church of Saint-André overlooks the village centre. Manor houses from different periods add to the picture. If you are looking for a hotel in Cordey, you can first decide whether architectural history or the landscape and route planning should shape your stay.

Woodland Landscapes and Routes

The western part of Cordey is occupied by the Bois de Saint-André. To the south, on the edge of the landscape around Falaise, the terrain becomes more rugged and follows the contours of the wooded slopes of the Baize Valley. This brings different landscape features into view: woodland to the west and more varied slopes to the south.

The Falaise–Saint-Vigor cycle route follows the D244 through the village of Cordey. This gives cyclists a specific route through the village. Check current route conditions before setting off.

The 12.5 km circular route at Étang d’Ergoutel continues for a further 150 m towards the village of Cordey at the end. The two figures refer to different parts of the route: 12.5 km for the circular route and 150 m for the continuation towards Cordey. Check local path conditions before setting off.

Church and Manor Houses

The Manoir Cordey dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. Its distinctive features include the tower, stables and dovecote, which are typical of Norman manor houses. The estate can therefore be understood both through its dates and through specific elements of its architecture.

The parish church of Saint-André shapes the village’s appearance with its position above the village centre. It was built in the early 19th century on the ruins of an earlier building. The church also contains an altarpiece with a painting of Saint Andrew on wood and a depiction of his martyrdom. This building thus brings together an earlier history, a later period of construction and a specific pictorial subject.

The Manoir de Carabillon offers another historical point of reference: it was built in 1752 on the site of an earlier fief of the same name. This distinguishes its recorded history from the 16th- and 17th-century dating of the Manoir Cordey. To reach the Manoir de Carabillon, take exit 11 on the A88/N158, then head towards Putanges and follow the D509. Check road conditions and signage before travelling.
