Bavent brings together listed architectural heritage, a living craft tradition and a range of outdoor activities. Château de Bavent, Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent, the “Les marais et l’île de Robehomme” walking trail and Étang du Colvert each offer something different. When planning your visit, it is worth considering culture, a stroll or hike, and fishing as separate interests. That way, you can first decide which of these aspects of the area you would like to shape your stay.

Architectural heritage and pottery tradition

Château de Bavent is partially protected as a Monument historique; its main construction phase dates to the 17th century. This historic period and heritage designation come together in a single building. It is a clear point of reference for exploring Bavent’s culture, complemented by the continuing craft tradition of Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent.

Since 1842, Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent has made architectural features for façades and roofs, including ridge finials and decorations for gardens and interiors. The craftspeople still work by hand, using traditional stamping and wheel-throwing techniques. Production thus combines building components with decorative applications in other settings. The Musée des épis de faîtage traces the history of the site and preserves old kilns. The pottery theme brings together the craft of production and local history, while the château offers another historical perspective on Bavent.

The cultural themes also complement each other across different periods: the château’s main construction phase dates to the 17th century, while the pottery has been making architectural features since 1842 and continues to uphold traditional handcraft. The heritage of a historic building thus sits alongside a craft practice that is still carried on today.

Strolls, walking trail and animal park

For outdoor activities, a stroll, a hiking route and an animal park are distinct options. At Le Verger de Roncheville, you can take a free stroll along paved paths through a two-hectare wooded area. The animal park at Le Verger features 26 breeds of Norman animals. There, the walking paths are paired with a specific focus on Normandy’s animal life. Another option is the “Les marais et l’île de Robehomme” walking trail, which crosses part of Bavent and is about 14 km long. If you are choosing between a stroll and a longer hike, these are two distinct formats: paved paths through a wooded area on the one hand, and a named route of approximately 14 kilometres on the other.

Fishing at Étang du Colvert

Étang du Colvert is a fishing spot at a three-hectare pond in a green, rural setting. Fishing equipment can be rented at the site. Picnics and barbecues are permitted there for anglers. These conditions make the pond a clearly defined option for anglers: you can plan to rent equipment and also bear in mind that picnics and barbecues are restricted to anglers. This distinguishes the site from the walking and hiking options; the focus here is on fishing and the additional activities explicitly permitted for anglers.
