Ramecourt can be explored through its distinctive cultural and landscape features. Saint-Léger Church houses two protected statues; a former railway line has been converted into a walking and riding path. There is also the Pépinière-jardin Antoine Breuvart, which is open from March to October. This offers a range of themes to consider when planning a visit: religious art, outdoor activities and a seasonal garden visit.
Art and Local History
The statues “Vierge à l’Enfant” and “Christ aux liens” are located in Saint-Léger Church, but in different parts of it. The “Vierge à l’Enfant” is in the northwest corner of the north transept and dates from the first quarter of the 17th century. “Christ aux liens” is in the choir, in the central bay of the apse. The names of the architectural features help locate them: the transept arm is part of the transept, while the apse is at the end of the choir. They therefore refer to two different areas of the same church interior.
Both statues are listed as protected cultural objects; their protection listing is dated 16 May 1983. Local history also has a dated reference point: the lordship of Ramecourt is documented from 1221, when Adam Quiéret is named as “sire de Ramecourt.” The term “lordship” refers to a historical system of rule; the reference to the “sire de Ramecourt” gives the year a specific personal connection.
The dates mark different things: 1221 refers to the documented lordship and the mention of Adam Quiéret. The first quarter of the 17th century is when the “Vierge à l’Enfant” was created, while 1983 is the protection date of both statues. This distinction in time links local history and art without conflating the dates.
Landscape and Paths
Around the centre of Ramecourt, fields, meadows, hedgerows and small wooded areas alternate. This mix offers a distinctive glimpse of the rural surroundings.
The former Auxi-Frévent-Ramecourt railway line has now been developed by the Département as a walking and riding path. This identifies two ways to use the path: on foot or on horseback. Its former function as a railway line gives it historical context; the route is home to fauna and flora.
The two landscape details relate to different areas: fields, meadows, hedgerows and wooded areas describe the surroundings of the town centre, while the fauna and flora are associated with the path along the former railway line. This makes it possible to distinguish the area around the town from the natural features along the path.
