Discover Beussent through a range of themes: the La Course runs through the village in a green valley, while chocolate-making, fishing and historic buildings offer their own points of interest. When planning your trip, it is worth choosing a focus and checking the arrangements for your planned visits and activities in advance.

Chocolate and craftsmanship

The Chocolaterie de Beussent was founded in 1985 by the De Ricq brothers. Its chocolate is made using traditional methods, with a process that runs from selecting the cocoa beans to roasting them. The cocoa beans come from the company’s own plantation in Ecuador. This offers a way to explore the local chocolate tradition through its ingredients and production—not just the finished product.

Visits to the Chocolaterie Beussent Lachelle are a separate matter: they are available by reservation only. Check the current booking procedure before your visit. Anyone interested in honey will also find something to explore at the Miellerie de la Vallée de la Course in Beussent: learning about a beekeeper’s daily work ranges from caring for the hives to producing honey. Check the booking arrangements and programme in advance.

The La Course, fishing and cycling

The La Course shapes Beussent’s setting: the river runs through the village, which lies in a green valley. The federal no-kill fishing route in Beussent runs along two waterways, the La Course and Les Baillons. Brown trout and Atlantic salmon can be caught there. Before making plans, check the current rules and conditions for fishing for these species.

Another fishing option is trout fishing at the Pisciculture de Beussent, which has four ponds. Fishing tackle and bait are also sold there. The ponds offer a different setting from the fishing route along the two waterways. If you plan this activity, check seasonal access and availability before travelling.

A longer cycling trip is another option to consider: the 30 km “La randonnée des lacs d’amour” starts on the Route de Boulogne in Neuville-Sous-Montreuil. Its route passes through the Course Valley, the Baillons Valley and the Montcavrel Forest. The stated starting point is useful for planning; also check current route conditions.

Discover mills and churches

Moulin Caron was built as a grain mill in the 18th century and converted into an oil mill in the mid-19th century. These two uses mark a change in the building’s history: first grain processing, then oil production. Visitors interested in the development of local crafts will find a tangible historical connection to food production here.

The Church of Beussent, dedicated to Saint Audomar, was built by the architect Clovis Normand, who came from Hesdin, on the foundations of an earlier church that collapsed in 1873. Its windows have two or three opening shapes and are topped by a multilobed oculus; the design refers to architectural models from the 12th century. With its transept, the church is one of the few in the Haut-Pays d’Opale to have this feature.

The Chapel of Engoudsent offers another point of historical interest: it was founded in 1177 by the lords of Montcavrel. Along with Moulin Caron and the church, it offers a different way to discover Beussent from the themes of chocolate and the river valley. Depending on your interests, you can make local craftsmanship, religious architecture or activities by the water the focus of your trip.
