Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel offers several reasons to stay: the Sentier d’Entre-Monts for hiking, the Jardin des Fées as a garden, the Brasserie 3 Monts for brewery history and beer tasting, and regional dishes at L’Hazewinde. Each attraction has a different focus. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether hiking, a garden visit, a brewery tour by arrangement or regional cuisine should shape your stay.
Hiking the Sentier d’Entre-Monts
The Sentier d’Entre-Monts is a very easy, family-friendly hiking trail covering 6.8 kilometres; it takes about two hours. It starts at the car park by the church in Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel and follows small, quiet roads. The route also passes the Chapelle N.D. de Grâce. The starting point and approximate duration provide a practical guide for planning your day, while the chapel is a named cultural stop along the way. At around two hours, the hike is a clearly defined block of time for your day’s plans.
A garden visit at the Jardin des Fées
The English-inspired Jardin des Fées features shrubs, perennials and historic roses, as well as collections of aromatic and medicinal plants. Water features and a vegetable garden complement the grounds; the Jardin also includes a nursery for perennials and aromatic and medicinal plants. If you would rather focus on plants than on a hiking route, this offers a different experience from the Sentier d’Entre-Monts. Self-guided and guided visits are possible; groups are welcomed by arrangement. Check the current visiting options before you travel.
Brewery history and seasonal visits
Brasserie 3 Monts has been family-run and independent since 1920. According to oral tradition, the Brasserie Cordonnier was already operating at the site of today’s brewery in the 18th century. During a visit, a guide introduces the family history and the brewing methods and techniques; a beer tasting follows. Visits are possible by arrangement, in seasonal time slots, through a partnership with Destination Cœur de Flandre. Check dates and availability in advance. Depending on the season, visitors may see growing hops across from the brewery premises.
Regional dishes at L’Hazewinde
L’Hazewinde in Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel serves local produce and traditional regional dishes. These include carbonnade, potjevleesch, chicken with Maroilles and Welsh rarebit. Unlike a beer tasting, the focus here is on the choice of food and produce; each offers a different way to enjoy the region’s food culture.
When planning, the attractions differ above all in their timing and visiting arrangements: the route is listed as taking about two hours, you should check current visiting options for the garden, and brewery visits take place by arrangement in seasonal time slots.
