Saint-Vincent-Rive-d'Olt brings together church art, a landscape shaped by winegrowing, and two distinct connections to walking routes. In Cournou, historic churches meet vineyards, wooded heights, and traces of former mills. There is also a wine tasting and an annual running and walking event. Visitors wishing to plan their stay around culture, wine, or walking will find several specific points of interest here.

Church Art and Local History

The Gothic church of Saint-Vincent was listed as a historic monument on November 9, 2015. One of its distinctive architectural details is a Renaissance portal dating from 1540. The entrance to the Église Saint-Vincent also features a 17th-century baptismal font made of pink marble. Its oval, fluted basin and wrought-iron grille create a different impression from the portal, shifting attention from the church building to a single item of its furnishings.

Renaissance features can also be found in the townscape. Renaissance windows are visible in a lane leading to the public square; they were added to the supplementary inventory of historic monuments in 1926. The memorial featuring a bust of Léon Lafage was inaugurated on August 31, 1958. Together, the portal, windows, and memorial offer several specific markers in time, spanning the Renaissance through the 20th century.

Cournou: Saint-Nazaire and Its Altarpieces

The first construction phase of the church of Saint-Nazaire in Cournou may date from the 12th or 13th century, judging by the quality of its dressed stonework. An extensive building campaign in the 19th century included, in particular, the present portal and bell tower. Two side chapels were added in the 17th century, specifically to house altarpieces dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint James. This expansion is connected with the large numbers of pilgrims who visited at the time; it describes the site's historical significance, not a present-day religious program.

The Baroque altarpiece of Saint James of Compostella in Cournou was created in the second half of the 17th century and contains a monumental central statue. The altarpiece ensemble on the side altar of the Virgin Mary in the church of Saint-Nazaire includes three gilded and polychrome statues set in niches. As a movable cultural object, the altarpiece in the north chapel has been listed since June 14, 2007. The details differ—from the dating and dedication to the figures' design—giving each altarpiece its own character.

Wine Country and Former Mills

The Cournou vineyard lies in a hollow shaped by winegrowing. Wooded high points and scattered settlements are part of this landscape. On the Cournou plateau, wooded strips create a distinctive coulisse landscape. The descriptions of the hollow and plateau offer two different views of the countryside around Cournou, rather than reducing it to vineyards alone.

The Bondoire stream is also part of the area's history: it once powered three mills. These included the former fortified lower mill, which had two millstones. Winegrowing and the history of the mills thus represent different uses of the landscape. Visitors interested in the rural surroundings can look beyond the vineyards to this former connection between the stream and the mills.

Tastings and Walking Routes

The Domaine du Prince welcomes visitors every day of the week to taste different vintages of Cahors wine. Schedules can change, so check the timing before your visit. The winery farms 24 hectares of vineyard land on the Causse. Les Foulées du Malbec is an annual running and walking event in Saint-Vincent-Rive-d'Olt. Check the specific dates and format for your travel year.

Two routes also offer different points of interest: the Cahors vineyards road circuit reaches Saint-Vincent-Rive-d'Olt on its third stage. The GR36 long-distance walking trail from Laramière to Bonaguil also passes through the town, listed there as point 17. For travel planning, these can be read as separate wine-route and long-distance walking-trail connections; they are not part of the same stage.
