Linac offers a range of ways to enjoy a stay: the Church of Saint-Georges and the Château de Puy-Launay reveal architectural history from different centuries, while the 11.5-kilometre Circuit de Linac is a clearly defined circular route. This lets you consider cultural details and time outdoors as distinct focuses.
Church of Saint-Georges: several historical time references
The bell tower of the Church of Saint-Georges was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1944 and rebuilt in the third quarter of the 20th century. The two dates mark different stages in the tower’s history: 1944 represents its destruction, while the third quarter of the 20th century marks its reconstruction. If you are interested in architectural history by period, this transition offers a striking introduction to the church’s history.
The stained-glass windows add another historical detail to the tower. They are dated 1924 and bear the signatures of Saint-Blancat of Toulouse. The window on the central axis has a different signature: GP Dagrant of Bordeaux. The date and signatures highlight different aspects—the windows can be placed in their historical context and also linked to the named artists and cities.
The apse may date from the 15th or 16th century. Taken together, the apse, stained-glass windows and tower trace a sequence from a possibly older building element through the windows of 1924 to the reconstruction in the third quarter of the 20th century. If you want to place the church in its historical context, you can compare these different markers: a possible date for the apse, a precise date for the windows and a period of reconstruction.
Château de Puy-Launay: architectural form and landscape
The Château de Puy-Launay is a three-storey residential building with two round towers. Parts of the building date from the 11th, 15th and 17th centuries.
Its location offers a focus of its own. The château stands in Linac on a promontory-shaped hill and overlooks the Berbezou valley to the west. The description of the terrain and the western view of the valley add a specific landscape perspective to its architecture. You can therefore consider the two buildings from different angles: the church foregrounds specific historical dates, while the château also stands out for its position on the hill.
Circuit and walks: outdoor activities
The Circuit de Linac is an 11.5-kilometre circular route that starts in Linac and is suitable for mountain bikes. Its length and starting point give the route a clear framework. If you are considering a ride, check the current trail conditions beforehand.
The Club cyclo also organises walking excursions twice a month. This is a different format from the mountain-bike circuit: the focus here is on organised walks and their regular schedule. If you would like to include the walks in your plans, check the club’s current schedule. This lets you distinguish between a circular route of a specified length and the walks organised by the club.
