Cornac’s distinctive character can be seen in the landscape along the Mamoul, the history of its fortified village and the glass art of Luminescence - Vitraux. Nature, historical details and craft techniques each offer a different focus for your stay.

Forest Slopes and the Mamoul

Cornac is predominantly forested; meadows and pastures break up the landscape on the slopes. These open hillside areas are part of the village’s character, alongside its woodland.

The Mamoul, a tributary of the Dordogne, emerges from picturesque gorges onto the plain of Cornac, where it divides into several branches. The gorge, plain and branching river form a different landscape feature from the wooded slopes and their meadows and pastures.

Village History and the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs

In the medieval fortified village, around thirty families lived close together around the church. Two gates, fortified boundary walls and ditches characterized the settlement. The approximate number of families gives an idea of the scale of the village, clustered tightly around the church; the gates and ditches also give an impression of its fortifications.

The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs dates from the 13th century. It stands on a nearby hill in the cemetery overlooking Cornac. The choir features overlapping trompe-l’œil decorations, including a medieval design and a faux altarpiece from the 17th century. The chapel thus brings together 13th-century construction and choir decorations from different periods.

Glass Art and Tours

The Luminescence - Vitraux workshop works with leaded glass, the Tiffany technique and fusing. It offers a permanent exhibition and studio tours by appointment. If you plan a studio tour, confirm the appointment again before you travel.

Les Amis de Cornac organizes guided and theatrical tours in summer. Tours for groups of four or more are available year-round on request. Arrange a group tour before your trip; the seasonal tours and the year-round option on request are different ways to visit.

Getting Around on Foot

Cornac has a Tèrra-Aventura treasure hunt: a walk of several kilometers, riddles and a hunt for treasure lead you to discover unusual places. The route, challenges and treasure hunt are all part of this activity. As route details may change, check the information before setting out.

The fifth edition of La Cornacopia featured hiking routes of 5, 12 and 18 km and Nature Trail routes of 12, 18 and 30 km. Both sets included 12 and 18 km; the longest Nature Trail route was 30 km, while the longest hiking route was 18 km. These distances refer to the fifth edition.
