Paulhac brings together the Forêt de Buzet, biodiversity and sites linked to local history. This gives you several ways to plan your trip: enjoy activities in the forest, take a fun trail with children or explore the area’s cultural heritage. The activities differ in format, so you can choose according to the kind of experience you’re looking for.
Forêt de Buzet: forest and different trails
The Forêt de Buzet is a departmental forest extending across the river Tarn’s first two alluvial terraces. It offers visitors a place to relax and enjoy nature-based recreation while preserving its ecological richness. The forest is therefore both a natural landscape and a setting for various leisure activities.
The technical mountain bike trail is 6.8 kilometres long and intended for experienced riders. Check the stated route length before setting out.
The Balade Ludique Randoland follows a different approach: this self-guided treasure hunt runs in and around Paulhac and passes through the Forêt de Buzet. Children follow clues, becoming the explorers and guides of the trail. The route is 6.3 kilometres long and is listed as taking two and a half hours.
The two activities have different requirements: the mountain bike trail is technical and intended for experienced riders, while Randoland is designed as a playful clue hunt for children. This lets you choose between nature-based sport and a self-guided discovery experience, rather than judging both trails by the same standard of difficulty.
Biodiversity in Paulhac
La Maison de la Biodiversité is located in Paulhac in a former building associated with the area’s wine-growing heritage. The centre offers visitors and younger guests innovative educational trails where they can discover biological diversity. The building’s connection to the area’s former wine-growing heritage also links this educational experience to another aspect of local history.
The educational trails offer a distinct way to explore the natural world: discovering biological diversity is the main focus here, while the mountain bike trail and public recreation area are about nature-based sport and leisure in the Forêt de Buzet. If you’re choosing Paulhac based on your interests, this distinction can help you think of the educational experience and activities in the forest as separate options.
Church and memorial sites
The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption occupies a central position in Paulhac’s original settlement layout, known as a “circulade.” It was extensively renovated inside and out recently. One object in the church is classified as a historic monument.
The war memorial, Le monument aux morts, was erected in 1920 at the end of the First World War in memory of those who fell fighting for France. An information board about the area’s heritage is located on site. Since 1945, a memorial ceremony in honour of the fallen has been held there once a year.
The church and war memorial offer different historical points of interest: the church shapes the original settlement layout, while the memorial commemorates those who fell. The information board adds a heritage note to a visit to the memorial.
