The GR10 passes through Siguer, connecting the village with Gesties and Lercoul. In Bouychet, at the end of the D224 departmental road, trails for mid- and high-mountain hikes are marked. The route to the Barrage de Gnioure adds a clearly specified out-and-back hike to these options. If you are looking for accommodation in Siguer, you can therefore plan your hikes according to their starting point, distance, and seasonal conditions.

Geographical orientation

Siguer is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises and borders the Andorran parish of Ordino. The nature park and the border with Ordino provide two distinct points of reference for orientation: the protected landscape and the neighboring Andorran parish. At 2,903 meters, Pic du Port is the highest point in the commune of Siguer; in Andorra, it is called Pic de Font Blanca. The two names help you identify the peak in descriptions of the mountain region on both sides of the border.

Trails through Siguer and from Bouychet

The GR10 connects Siguer with Gesties and Lercoul. Before setting out, check the mountain conditions and trail markings. Bouychet is another point of reference for mid- and high-mountain trails: the D224 departmental road ends there, and corresponding routes are marked there. The route to Étang Blaou and Port de Siguer starts in Bouychet and initially follows the same trail as the route to Étang de Peyregrand. The route through Siguer and the trail that explicitly starts in Bouychet can therefore be considered as distinct options for planning a hike.

Two routes to the Barrage de Gnioure

The route to the Barrage de Gnioure is a 9 km out-and-back hike. It is rated difficult and is dangerous in snowy conditions. Check the current mountain conditions before setting out. The hike also follows in the footsteps of the workers who walked to the dam construction site between 1938 and 1948. This historical detail adds a specific glimpse of the construction period to the route information.

A longer out-and-back hike runs from the Barrage de Gnioure to the Refuge du Fourcat and is 15 km long. The comparison is between the 9 km hike to the dam and the 15 km route to the refuge, with two different destinations. For the longer route, you should also check the conditions along the trail and at the Refuge du Fourcat.

Shelters and fishing

Several municipal mountain huts in Siguer offer open shelters for hikers. Their use may be restricted seasonally due to pastoral activities. The Abri de Peyregrand can accommodate five to six people; during the summer grazing season, shepherds may have priority. If you are planning hikes that involve using a shelter, take this seasonal restriction into account.

Fishing is another possible activity in the streams and mountain lakes of the commune of Siguer. However, fishing in the lakes of Neych and the Redouneilles des vaches et des brebis is reserved for authorized people. If you plan to fish during your stay, make sure to take this restriction into account.

Finding accommodation and choosing hikes

If you are looking for hotels in Siguer, first decide which hikes you want to include in your plans. The GR10 passes through the commune; the marked mid- and high-mountain trails are located in Bouychet.
