A coniferous forest covering more than 1,000 hectares, a spring with a changing flow pattern, and a circular hike that starts in Bélesta: excursions here come in different sizes. There is also the parish church of Saint Blaise, a Pentecost procession and handmade pottery. These features offer a concrete way to decide whether Bélesta suits the kind of trip you have in mind when choosing a holiday rental or planning a getaway.

Forest and spring

Bélesta’s communal forest is a coniferous forest that extends over more than 1,000 hectares to the Plateau de Sault. A 15.1-kilometre circular hike passes through the forest and starts in Bélesta. Route details may change locally; check the current route before setting out.

Another natural feature is the intermittent Fontestorbes spring. For most of the year, it flows continuously for seven to nine months. During the low-water period from July to September, it becomes intermittent and follows a cycle of approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Seasonal timing may vary. If you specifically want to experience this phenomenon, take both the period and the approximate cycle into account when planning.

Church, pottery and Pentecost

The parish church of Saint Blaise dates from 1550 to 1559. Its features include an altarpiece and stained-glass windows. Poterie Gérard Gourdel sells handmade glazed pottery in a shop in the centre of Bélesta, opposite the market hall. The shop is open year-round; as its operating status and opening arrangements may change, check the details if you plan to visit.

A procession is held in Bélesta at Pentecost: reliquaries of Saint Blaise are carried to the Val d’Amour. If this tradition is a deciding factor for your trip, check the exact date before making plans. This lets you complement outings in nature and the forest with a cultural event, without assuming there is a fixed programme.

Walks and activities at the Gouffre des Corbeaux

The Gouffre des Corbeaux can be viewed from a footbridge built over the chasm. A 45-minute family walk is also associated with the site; walking times may vary depending on conditions. For a longer activity, there is a full-day caving experience that goes into the Gouffre des Corbeaux. The meeting point is in the village square in Bélesta, 09300 Bélesta. As meeting arrangements and activity conditions may change, check them before travelling.

Crapahut Parc Aventure offers another kind of outing: its natural woodland site in the Fontestorbes forest covers more than four hectares. It has eight courses for visitors aged four and over, as well as an escape game and a large outdoor laser game. The offer may change, so check which activities are currently available before visiting. A short footpath at the edge of a residential area also leads to the ruins of the Château d’Amont.
