The Château de Courcelles was restored from 2003 onwards and officially inaugurated on 26 May 2005. These dates bring a more recent chapter of local history to life. Montigny-Lès-Metz also offers much older church heritage, sacred art and green spaces with distinct characteristics. The choice of destination therefore does not focus on just one theme: historic buildings and green spaces appeal to different interests, while each destination stands out for its period or use.

Churches and Château History

The Chapelle Saint-Privat is considered the first church in Montigny-Lès-Metz and was built in the 9th century. Its opening schedule is important when planning a visit: from April to October, the chapel is open to the public once a month. Check the specific dates in the municipal events calendar if you are planning your visit in advance. This way, you can take the seasonal opening window into account rather than assuming you can visit on any given day.

The Église Saint-Joseph was inaugurated on 29 July 1906, after three years of construction. It contains a wooden image of Christ from the 15th century, and its frescoes are arranged in five large programmes. The church thus brings together an early 20th-century building, a much older work of art and a fresco collection organised into distinct sections. For an art-focused visit, there are two perspectives to explore: a single work with a specific date and the arrangement of the frescoes into several large programmes.

Taken together, these sites span a period from the 9th-century chapel and the 15th-century image of Christ to the inauguration of the Église Saint-Joseph and the more recent restoration of the Château de Courcelles. This sequence shows that local history cannot be reduced to a single period.

Parks and Gardens with Distinct Character

The Parc du château de Courcelles covers two hectares, is designated as a classified woodland area and is laid out for family walks. At 2.5 hectares, the Jardin devant-Blory is slightly larger, but has a different designation: it is a municipal green space and an example of biodiversity conservation. Choosing between the two is therefore not simply a matter of size, but also of the character of each green space. As access conditions at the Parc may change, check them before your visit.

The Jardin des Découvertes has a stronger focus on children. This 45-are garden is intended mainly for schoolchildren aged three to eleven. It includes outdoor activities, among them a miniature golf course. Its age group and play facilities set this garden apart from the other two green spaces. Individual facilities may change, so check which activities are currently available before your visit.

Choose Your Stay Based on Your Interests

If you are looking for a hotel in Montigny-Lès-Metz, you can start by deciding what you want to focus on during your trip: the historic buildings offer church and art history, while the green spaces differ in their designations and uses. This lets you choose a destination based on the kind of discovery you would like to prioritise.
