Trilla offers different ways to experience its landscape and culture: a dolmen hike with specific route details, a path through the village to a panoramic viewpoint, and stone monuments showcasing megalithic architecture. Lac de l’Agly also extends across Trilla; holm oaks and vineyards shape the landscape. This makes it possible to focus a stay on activity, views or architecture.

Hiking Trails by Duration and Character

The “Sentier des dolmens en Fenouillèdes,” also known as “DOLMENS EN FENOUILLÈDES,” is about 9 km long and has an elevation gain of 386 m. The hike takes approximately three hours on foot and is classified as easy. The starting point is opposite the car park on the RD 9, after the bridge over the Agly. The route allows you to explore the Taupels plateau and leads to the Las Colombinos Dolmen. A GPX route track is available. Route details and access may change, and digital route documentation may also be updated. So check the details, access and track before setting out.

The “Mémoire villageoise” route passes through Trilla to an orientation sign at an altitude of 480 m. From there, it offers an impressive panorama. On this route, the viewpoint is a specific destination; by contrast, the dolmen hike has an approximate walking time, distance and elevation gain.

Another option is the “Aqueduc et Dolmens” route, which leads to the granite block of Trilla. It includes a long, steep section with technically challenging passages. Technical conditions may vary; check the current conditions in advance. These are different considerations from those for the 9 km hike classified as easy: here, the challenging section is of particular importance.

The routes can therefore be distinguished by their respective focus: a specified walking time and dolmen destinations, a panoramic viewpoint or technically challenging passages. These details help with planning the day without combining the routes into one tour.

Dolmens and Other Cultural Features

The Taupels Dolmen lies northwest of Trilla in the Fenouillèdes and is a simple dolmen dating from the late third millennium BC. Its large rectangular chamber measures 2 m × 1.2 m × 1 m and is located at the centre of a tumulus. Two upright stones support a horizontal capstone; the chamber opens to the southwest. Its dating, orientation and dimensions give this monument specific architectural characteristics.

The Camp del Prat Dolmen, also known as the Las Apostados Dolmen, is a broad rectangular monument with a large chamber.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption has a distinctive clock; the Chapelle Sainte-Colombe belongs to it. Along with the dolmens and the routes described, these buildings offer different starting points for a stay that takes in the culture and landscape of Trilla.
