Err lies at the foot of the Puigmal, so your choice of accommodation can be guided by the trails and activities in the mountain area. Walking and hiking trails, Nordic walking and mountain biking offer different focuses; the Notre-Dame d’Err statue adds a cultural and historical point of interest to the outdoor activities. Those whose main interest is hiking will find marked trails starting in the village and routes connected to named peaks. For other interests, cycling and Nordic walking routes offer their own options, while the procession on 2 July provides a specific annual date.

Hiking from Err and in the Puigmal area

Numerous signposted walking and hiking trails start in the village of Err and in the Puigmal area. These two starting points provide a concrete framework for planning: you can plan your outing around the village or the Puigmal area. The long-distance hiking trail Tour de Cerdagne GR®P also passes through Err. This gives you different planning options: marked trails from two starting points and a long-distance route running through the village. Check seasonal trail conditions before setting out.

For hikes featuring named peaks, the Les Crêtes du Puigmal route leads to Puigmal d’Err and includes Puigmal de Llo and petit Puigmal de Sègre. The Puigmal trail routes lead to villages and the Cerdanya plateau, through forests and high-altitude landscapes, as well as to peaks and the border ridge. The information thus distinguishes between a clearly named peak route and trail descriptions that cover several types of landscape and destinations.

Mountain biking and Nordic walking

The Puigmal Pyrénées-Cerdagne cycling destination has eight signposted mountain biking routes, with difficulty levels ranging from green to black. Check trail conditions before riding. For Nordic walking, there are five routes for all ability levels, including an introductory route with technique exercises. These are structured differently: the mountain biking offer specifies the number of routes and their difficulty levels, while the Nordic walking offer includes an introductory route. When choosing between the two, you can consider the type of activity and, for cycling, the indicated difficulty level as well.

A Saillagouse–Err connection from the Ecobike rental shop links cyclists with other mountain biking routes in the Puigmal area. As this visitor service may change, check locally before relying on it in your plans.

Walks in different seasons

The former Err-Puigmal ski resort offers opportunities for walks in both winter and summer. This adds a seasonal dimension to the trails starting in the village and the Puigmal area. Seasonal conditions may affect your trail plans; check them before your trip.

Notre-Dame d’Err and the procession

The statue of the seated Virgin and Child, Notre-Dame d’Err, is located in the Chapelle Notre-Dame and dates from the first quarter of the 13th century. It is a specific historical point of interest alongside the hiking and mountain activities. Every year on 2 July, the statue is carried in a procession. Thus, a historical object and a recurring religious event go hand in hand. If you are travelling specifically for the procession, check the date for the year you plan to visit.
