Arles-Sur-Tech brings together hiking, cultural history and activities on the Tech. The offerings have different focuses: a circular hike, Romanesque and Gothic architecture, and river activities whose availability may depend on the season. Catalan textile history adds another distinctive theme.

Hiking and fishing on the Tech

The Boucle de la Batllia is 6.2773 km long and is designed as a circular hike. It starts and finishes at the Centre Sud Canigó Sports et Pleine Nature in Arles-Sur-Tech. The route is also listed in the departmental hiking trail plan for Pyrénées-Orientales. Having the same start and end point makes it a circular route; check for any temporary access restrictions before setting out.

The Parcours de Pays du Tech can be reached via the RD115 in the direction of the sports centre. There is a car park on the Tech below the sports centre. As access and parking conditions may change, it is advisable to check before setting off. For fishing, the route offers 900 m of fishable flowing water along the right bank. Check access conditions and applicable fishing regulations before your trip. The two offerings differ considerably in terms of planning: the Boucle is a circular hike, while the Parcours offers a stretch of river for fishing.

Abbey, architectural history and textiles

Abbaye Sainte-Marie is partly classified as a historic monument. Its Romanesque church has three naves, while the Gothic cloister dates from the 13th century. Three naves describe the layout of the church interior; the cloister adds a different architectural accent. Thus, two distinct architectural forms stand side by side within the abbey. On the GR10 route from Arles-Sur-Tech to Banyuls-sur-Mer are the former abbey church, the cloister and the Sainte Tombe.

The town’s fortifications are also associated with a specific historic structure: the bell tower of Église Saint-Sauveur stood against the town’s defensive wall and served as a watchtower. The tower thus connects church history with the town’s defensive function.

Les Toiles du Vieux Moulin is a museum of Catalan weaving and specialised in fabrics for espadrilles. This focus on textiles complements the history of religious buildings with an aspect of craftsmanship. It also makes the weaving tradition tangible through a specific product: espadrille fabrics rather than textile production in general.

Activities at Les Jardins du Tech

Les Jardins du Tech is located by the river and offers various attractions for children and adults. These include several zip-line courses, obstacle games and suspension bridges. At Les Jardins du Tech, the Riu de Montferrer gorge leads to a waterfall and a natural pool. This gives visitors a choice between adventure courses and a natural destination in the gorge. Activity availability may vary by season; check water conditions and access locally.

The Catalan weaving museum also offers a distinctive cultural experience. Focus your search on the themes that interest you most in Arles-Sur-Tech.
