Saint-Chaptes can be explored through a range of different highlights: a nature trail along the Gardon, historic buildings, seasonal leisure activities and an annual themed market. As you plan, consider whether nature watching, architectural history or a particular event date will shape your stay. Each attraction has its own focus—from a walk through a protected natural area to a market on November 1.

Along the Gardon: nature trail and hiking stages

The Chemin de découverte du Gardon is a nature trail along the Gardon. Information panels cover the environment and flood risks; the trail also includes a wildlife observation post. Parcours 1 stretches for 3.5 kilometres through a protected natural area measuring 9.5 hectares. The route and area provide a specific setting for learning about the river and its surroundings.

The GR®700 Chemin de Régordane is a different route: one stage runs from Ners to Saint-Chaptes, and another from Saint-Chaptes to La Calmette. Saint-Chaptes is therefore also named as a stop on this route. If you are planning a longer hike, check the route and stage plans in advance. The stage details provide a different point of reference from the 3.5 kilometres of Parcours 1.

Castles with distinct features

The Château de Saint-Chaptes is a medieval building that has been altered several times. It is partially protected under the French heritage protection system; its listing as a protected monument dates to January 25, 1988. These alterations are part of its architectural history, alongside its medieval origins.

The architecture of the Château de la Tour dates back to the 12th century; the building is listed as a historic monument. Its landscaped park includes plane-tree-lined avenues, a boxwood topiary maze and a 13th-century keep. While the Château de Saint-Chaptes is notable for a structure changed over time, the park and keep are also central features of the Château de la Tour. Visits to the Château de la Tour are possible only by prior appointment. Arrange your appointment before visiting.

Leisure park and November market

Green Park is an animal and leisure park covering more than 5 hectares. Its listed features include games, attractions with free access and a water area with two large slides. There is also a vegetable garden and a plant maze. The offering may change seasonally; check which activities are available for your visit in advance.

The Marché des Sorcières takes place every year on November 1 as a craft market with a medieval or fairy-tale theme. The programme includes face-painting workshops and a banquet for which reservations are required. If the market is the reason for your trip, check that year's programme in advance so you can factor in the date and the event that requires reservations.

A guide to the town centre

There are four working fountains in the centre of Saint-Chaptes. They add a distinctive detail to the townscape alongside its larger attractions. This means there are several different themes to choose from when planning your visit: the Gardon nature trail and its information about the environment and flooding, the castles' architectural history, the leisure activities at Green Park or the annual market. For hiking, consider the details of the Chemin de découverte and the GR®700 stages separately; for the market, the date is fixed at November 1, and visits to the Château de la Tour require an appointment in advance.
