The Oppidum Saint Vincent de Gaujac is situated on a hill in the garrigue and offers views over the Cèze and Tave valleys. In Gaujac, landscapes, hiking, archaeology and architectural history are different themes to explore; wine and the weekly market add to the picture of the town. When choosing your accommodation, consider whether you would like to focus on outdoor activities, historical traces or culinary experiences.

Hiking: Circular Route and Other Trails

The marked L’Oppidum Saint-Vincent route is a 7.7-kilometre circular hiking trail. The route reaches the Chapelle Saint-Saturnin via an out-and-back section from Sagriès. This means the route to the chapel is distinct from the full circular trail. Other hiking trails pass through Gaujac and its surroundings, offering further opportunities for walking; check their route details before your trip. If you prefer a tour with a specified distance for planning, you can use the marked circular route as a guide and choose other trails based on their route details.

Archaeology and Architectural History

The Oppidum Saint Vincent de Gaujac offers a glimpse into more than 2,000 years of history and is associated with the Gallic Samnagenses. Remains of defensive walls, baths and temples have been preserved. The archaeological site brings together a long historical arc and tangible architectural traces.

The Château de Gaujac represents a different chapter in architectural history: it was built during the 17th century and occupies an important position within a quadrangle formed by former fortifications. The château was listed by decree dated 1 December 1980. The Coopérative vinicole de Gaujac was built in 1928. In chronological terms, the oppidum’s long history thus sits alongside the construction of the château in the 17th century and the cooperative’s construction in 1928.

Wine and Weekly Market

The Château de Marjolet wine-growing estate covers 80 hectares in the communes of Gaujac and Laudun, extending beyond a single commune. At the château, you can taste wines in the Côtes du Rhône Villages Laudun, Côtes du Rhône and Vins de Pays categories. Individual and group tours are available on request; confirm your preferred visit in advance. You should also check whether tastings are available before your trip.

The Marché de Gaujac takes place every Thursday in the town centre and offers fresh seasonal produce. The selection may vary, so check the market day and what is on offer for your travel dates. Unlike a tour arranged on request, the market takes place on a fixed day of the week: make sure Thursday fits your travel dates.
