Lommoye brings together local history and a striking landscape: at Saint-Léger Church, you can view architectural styles and decorative details from several centuries, while the Ru de Bonnières-sur-Seine and the edge of the Forêt de Rosny draw the eye to water and woodland. The village is also home to a theatre. This gives you the chance to focus on themes such as architecture, landscape and the performing arts.
Saint-Léger Church and Local History
Saint-Léger Church in Lommoye is a limestone building dating from the 13th and 16th centuries. Its bell tower was rebuilt in 1868; the Romanesque entrance portal is decorated with star- and zigzag-patterned archivolts. Different architectural traces from different periods thus stand side by side in the same building.
The rectangular nave has a side aisle on the north side; it also features three tracery windows and 19th-century stained glass depicting the four Evangelists. The bronze bell dates from 1771 and is protected as a movable historic monument. If you are planning to visit the interior, check opening times in advance.
Another chapter of local history no longer survives as a building: the Priory of the Holy Trinity in Lommoye was a dependency of Bec-Hellouin Abbey and was destroyed during the French Revolution.
Water, Woodland and Regional Nature
The source area of the Ru de Bonnières-sur-Seine lies in Lommoye and La Villeneuve-en-Chevrie. The watercourse is intermittent; a flowing section has been observed at the bridge on Rue Paster in Lommoye.
The Forêt régionale de Rosny is not entirely within Lommoye. Its outskirts also extend into La Villeneuve-en-Chevrie and Boissy-Mauvoisin. Some wooded areas continue this vast natural landscape across the plateau, while the forested massif defines the horizon. In the forest, you can see the Kiosque de Rosny, the remains of the Château des Beurons and the Chêne Mademoiselle oak. Numerous footpaths make it possible to explore the Forêt; check access routes and conditions before your visit.
In the wider region around Lommoye, the “Boucles de Moisson, Guernes et forêt de Rosny” Natura 2000 site stretches between the Seine Valley and the Lommoye Plateau. It consists of three landscape units. Wildlife is also part of the commune’s natural environment: a notice dated 15 May 2023 identifies Lommoye as the site of the largest maternity colony of Geoffroy’s bats (Myotis emarginatus) in Île-de-France.
