Four walking routes offer different perspectives on Ennery’s history and landscapes. Approximate walking times range from about an hour and a half to just under three hours. You can also explore the architectural history of Église Saint-Aubin and the Château complex, as well as activities related to brewing and horse riding.

Walking routes for different time budgets

At 4.5 km, the Sentier du patrimoine is the shortest of the four walking routes. The route takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk and has an elevation gain of 45 m. It starts and ends at the Salle polyvalente, 21 rue Charpentier d’Ennery. Signs along the way share the area’s history; the route also passes through Ennery’s diverse landscapes and heritage sites.

If you have more time for a walk, you can compare the lengths and walking times of the other three routes: Les hauts de l’Hermitage depuis Ennery is 6.3 km long, takes about 2 hours and has an elevation gain of 60 m. Les Molues, le ranch, les côteaux de l’Oise covers 8.15 km, takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to walk and has an elevation gain of 74 m. At 9.25 km, Tour d’Ennery par la plaine is the longest route; it takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes to walk and has an elevation gain of 40 m.

The landscapes also offer different highlights. Les coteaux d’Ennery crosses the slopes above the Oise. Les Molues, le ranch, les côteaux de l’Oise runs across a grain-growing plateau, past equestrian centres and through woodland and a valley on its return to the village. Tour d’Ennery par la plaine passes through a gorge and across the plain, particularly on the side of Génicourt, Livilliers and Hérouville. Les hauts de l’Hermitage follows the border with Pontoise and offers a different perspective on Ennery.

Comparing route length and elevation gain provides another point of reference: Tour d’Ennery par la plaine is the longest, but with an elevation gain of 40 m, it has the least elevation gain of the four routes. Les Molues is shorter and has the greatest elevation gain, at 74 m. Walking times range from about an hour and a half for the Sentier du patrimoine to just under three hours for Tour d’Ennery par la plaine.

The architectural history of Saint-Aubin and Château d’Ennery

Église Saint-Aubin was built in several phases from the late 11th to the 16th century. Its architecture combines Romanesque, Early Gothic and Renaissance elements; the Romanesque bell tower dates from the 12th century. The church was designated a historic monument in 1911. Its long construction history can therefore be understood in terms of several periods, rather than being reduced to a single architectural style or building period.

The Château d’Ennery complex is also protected as a historic monument. This designation has been in effect since 13 June 1942 and covers the château complex, including the park, dovecote and outbuildings. The history of Église Saint-Aubin also includes a mausoleum created by Jean Houdon. It was commissioned by the wife and daughter of Victor Thérèse Charpentier d’Ennery.

Brewery tours and riding lessons

Brasserie Zenzymes offers guided brewery tours in Ennery. Visitors are introduced to the production stages behind its craft beers. The brasserie also runs a beer shop, where classic beers brewed in-house are available year-round.

Porgy Equitation offers a different activity: the pony club in Ennery has 24 ponies and offers riding lessons, with French federation diplomas from Galop 1 to Galop 7 available. Alongside the walking routes and heritage sites, visitors can therefore choose activities related to brewing and horse riding.

Plan your stay around your interests

To plan your stay, you can first decide what matters most to you: the walking time and landscapes of the routes, the architectural history of Saint-Aubin and the Château complex, or one of the activities related to brewing and horse riding. The four routes can be compared by length, approximate time required and elevation gain; the other topics offer different alternatives. If you are looking for a hotel in Ennery, these options can be a useful starting point for deciding what you would like to experience during your stay.
