Discover Seine-Port through its natural areas, two notable route connections and the history of the village. You can shape your trip around what interests you most: landscapes, cycling or traces of the past.

Routes and Nature Around Seine-Port

Seine-Port lies on the GR2 long-distance hiking trail. Another route connection is the Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry–Seine-Port–Cesson Greenway: it is part of the Scandibérique, the French section of EuroVelo 3. This long-distance route connects Trondheim in Norway with Santiago de Compostela in Spain. If you plan to cycle the route, check the current local signage.

The Les Bruyères de Sainte-Assise regional nature reserve spans Seine-Port and Boissise-la-Bertrand. Its habitats include forests on acidic soils, wet heathland, pioneer vegetation on annual grasslands and vegetation in oligotrophic ponds. These varied habitats give the area a distinct natural character without limiting its landscape to a single type.

In the south of the commune lies the Bois de l’Ormeteau, a ZNIEFF. It includes dry sandy areas, two bodies of water and wooded stretches along the Seine. It is also home to plant species that are rare in Île-de-France, as well as rare animal species. In Parc de La Chesnaie, meanwhile, a cedar is classified as a “remarkable tree.” Together, these places offer different ways to explore the landscape and its flora and fauna.

Heritage and Village History

The Domaine de la Chesnaie has been awarded the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” designation. The continental station of the “Compagnie Radio France” in Sainte-Assise and the entrance gate to the Seine-Port nature reserve have also received the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” designation. These three named places offer different starting points for exploring the region’s heritage.

The Musée de Seine-Port collection includes postcards, photographs, reproductions of paintings, books and documents. They tell the story of the village and of people who have lived or are living in Seine-Port. Alongside its buildings, the village’s history and the connection between the village and its residents are also in focus.

The Église Saint-Sulpice preserves traces of different periods: its nave and the former seigneurial chapel, now the Chapelle de la Vierge, date from the late 12th century. The Chapelle Saint-Louis was built to house the heart of Philippe d’Orléans; Madame de Montesson was buried there in 1806. These details show that the church is shaped not only by its age, but also by its varied uses over time.

The Sentier Montesson also passes houses with a history. Some of the 18th-century houses along the trail were identified by the La Sauvegarde de Seine-Port association. They bear the coat of arms or number of the House of Orléans and were built according to precise architectural guidelines. The trail thus offers another way to explore the village’s architectural history.

Events and Other Places to Visit

A flea market with professional vendors takes place on Place Madame de Montesson on the first Sunday of every month, except in January and September. It has been held there since 1975. Check the date before your visit if you plan to go to the market.

For an active outing, Sainte Assise Aventure in Sainte-Assise offers courses ranging from the green “Pitchoun” course for ages three and up to the black “Adrénaline” course. The latter is the highest and most challenging course in Île-de-France. Confirm the age limit and course details before booking. At the end of Rue de Seine, there is also a large, tree-lined lawn that serves as a place for everyone to relax.

When planning your trip, you can choose from different interests: natural areas and rare species, cycling routes, village architecture or a visit to the market. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, these interests can help you decide how to spend your time in Seine-Port.
