Crégy-lès-Meaux offers several ways to enjoy a stay that combines local history, cultural attractions and time outdoors. The former Carmelite monastery, Saint-Laurent Church and the Maison maternelle de la Tuilerie represent different historical themes; the leisure park and the Médiathèque add nature and cultural activities. You can shape your stay around architectural history, social history, exercise or a public cultural offering.

Cultural History and Architecture

The former Carmelite monastery was founded in 1622 by Claude Débonnaire and has been awarded the Île-de-France region’s “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label. A panoramic view can be enjoyed between the two towers. The monastery is now privately owned; access arrangements may vary. Check access in advance.

Saint-Laurent Church was built in the 13th century and altered at the end of the 16th century. It is a small vaulted building with a chapel-shaped cornice. The dates distinguish the medieval construction phase from the later alterations; the architectural description adds the building’s compact form to the chronology.

The Maison maternelle de la Tuilerie opened on October 1, 1927. After extensive construction work, it provided care or shelter for almost 40 years to women who needed it during pregnancy, as well as to orphans. In 2024, the municipality documented a historical plaque at the Maison maternelle de la Tuilerie that introduces the site’s history. Check the condition of the plaque in person. Unlike the monastery and church, the focus here is on the institution’s former social role.

The historical periods are easy to distinguish: the church dates from the 13th century, the monastery was founded in 1622, and the Maison maternelle opened in 1927. Local history thus spans medieval church architecture, the founding of the monastery and the social role of a 20th-century institution.

The history of the Canal de l’Ourcq also extends beyond buildings: the canal was intended for the navigation of merchant ships supplying Paris, as well as for the city’s water supply. Construction work was halted near Crégy-lès-Meaux because the local rock was particularly hard.

Natural Setting and Cultural Activities

The leisure park in Crégy-lès-Meaux is a public natural space for relaxing, meeting others and playing. Its fitness trail is intended for running, jogging, walking and strolling; benches are placed along the route. This combines different forms of exercise with opportunities to rest along the way. Check the condition of the trail in person.

The Médiathèque is free and open to everyone. You can use materials on site; books, magazines, DVDs and board games are available to borrow. Regular events are aimed at all audiences. If you want to include a particular event in your stay, check the dates for your chosen travel period.

The Apple Festival is also a tradition in Crégy-lès-Meaux; its 47th edition took place in September 2025. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check the event dates for your chosen travel period.
