Le Plessis-Robinson offers several reasons to stay: historic religious architecture, landscaped green spaces and cultural venues. Visitors can choose which of these to focus on according to their interests—from the history of a church to a walk by a pond or a visit to the theatre.
Church History and Parkland
The parish of the Chapelle Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, Saint-Jean-Baptiste was founded in 1156; the church was built in the 13th century. In 1737, it was rebuilt with the exception of the bell tower. Since 1929, it has been partially protected as a historic monument. These dates provide a clear historical context for the church, connecting the parish’s early history with later structural changes and the building’s protected status.
Another historical trace leads to Parc Henri-Sellier. The park is a direct legacy of the former seigneurial estate of Le Plessis. Its large terrace was built in 1700 by Marshal Pierre de Montesquiou d’Artagnan and offers a viewpoint over the entire Bièvre Valley. The park is open year-round, but its opening hours vary by season. Check the seasonal schedule before your visit, particularly if you want to plan your time in the park carefully.
Walkways, a Pond and Botanical Highlights
Inaugurated in 2008, the Cité-jardins was developed around a landscaped walkway with a meandering stream. The nearly one-kilometre-long stream is fed by rainwater and lined with bridges and flower beds. The setting offers a different perspective on the town from its historic buildings: here, the watercourse and landscaped green spaces shape the character of the walkway.
The Jardin de l’étang Colbert also brings together water and landscape. A path circles the 2.7-hectare pond. Those interested in recreational activities on the water will also find two designated areas for freshwater fishing. Part of Étang Colbert is reserved for model boating on Sundays from 2 p.m. until the garden closes. Since local rules and operating conditions can change, check the information before planning a fishing or model-boating visit.
Three nationally protected Fontainebleau whitebeams (Sorbus latifolia) grow in the Bois de la Garenne. The woodland is also home to 216 recorded plant species. These figures give nature enthusiasts specific botanical points of interest without requiring a particular itinerary.
Museum, Theatre and Market
Since September 2025, Le Petit Musée has been located in the medieval section of the town hall. Admission is free, and visitors can explore without a guide; a visitor guide is available for adults and another specially for children. The museum has three rooms covering the themes of the lords of the manor, Robinson Crusoe and guinguettes. A visit thus brings together a range of subjects, from the history of the lords of the manor to literary and social themes. Since access arrangements can change, check the latest information before visiting.
The Théâtre de l’Allegria has 399 seats and can host concerts, opera screenings, musicals, and a wide range of theatre and dance performances. This describes the venue’s capabilities, not a specific programme. If you are planning to attend a performance, check the current schedule. The theatre also offers theatre and musical theatre classes for all ages and skill levels; the course offering may vary by season.
The Marché du Plessis-Robinson takes place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays in a splendid market hall inspired by the Baltard style, with numerous stalls. If you are planning a visit around the market, check the current market days in advance, as schedules and the number of stalls may change.
Planning Your Stay
When choosing a hotel, it may help to decide on your main focus first: historic architecture, parks and views, botanical interests, or a visit to the museum, theatre or market. You can then plan specific visit days around the seasonal opening hours of Parc Henri-Sellier, the market days and the current theatre programme.
