There are several reasons to visit Antony: historic landmarks, green spaces and cultural programmes. You can get to know the city through its parks and paths, or focus on architectural history, exhibitions and performances. Which side you explore first depends on the places and activities that interest you.

Parks and Greenways in Antony

At 9 hectares, Parc Georges Heller is the largest park among those managed by Antony’s municipal services. It occupies the grounds of the former estate of the Marquis de Castries, Marshal of France and Minister of the Navy under Louis XVI. With a little patience, or in the early morning, you may spot grey herons and squirrels there.

Parc Bourdeau is considerably smaller, at 1.2 hectares, and is close to the town centre. Its notable trees include a remarkable silver lime and a young Virginia tulip tree. The playground is intended for children aged two to eight. There are entrances at 20, rue Velpeau and via allée Louise; the entrance is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

There are three greenways for walking and cycling: the Coulée verte des Godets, the Coulée verte du Paradis and the Coulée verte – Promenade des Vallons de la Bièvre. Two of them can also be used on horseback. The Promenade des Vallons de la Bièvre runs through Antony and is accessible along its entire length. The routes therefore differ not only in name but also in their stated uses.

Historic Sites and Exhibitions

Église Saint-Saturnin is the oldest building in the municipality of Antony. A chapel is documented on this site as early as 829. The church was listed as a historic monument by decree on 19 October 1928. Maison des Arts offers a different way to explore Antony’s cultural history: housed in an 18th-century mansion, it serves as the city’s centre for temporary exhibitions.

Admission to Maison des Arts is free, and facilities are provided for visitors’ accessibility and comfort. Its seasonal programme includes photography, international art, and modern and contemporary art. Some exhibitions are temporary. If you are planning a visit, check for notices of temporary closures before setting out, and find out about the relevant exhibition programme.

The market also connects the city’s history with a present-day reason to visit, without equating the two: royal permission to establish a market in Antony was granted in 1545. The market in the town centre includes food vendors as well as flower sellers and booksellers. Its current offering therefore includes a range of goods and types of vendor.

Performances, Music and Other Cultural Offerings

Théâtre Firmin-Gémier – Patrick Devedjian hosts performances and concerts. It presents more than 100 performances a year, though the number may vary from season to season. If a particular evening is important to your stay, check the specific dates.

Espace Cirque d’Antony has 4,400 square metres of space for circus tents. Since 2003, companies have presented new works there or worked as part of artist residencies. Espace Vasarely includes rooms for congresses, conferences, receptions, exhibitions and concerts, as well as additional rehearsal rooms. Open stages for amateur musicians of all styles and ages are held there regularly throughout the year; individual dates vary. Three studios also serve as rehearsal and recording spaces for musicians working in various styles.

Le Sélect cinema is in the heart of the town centre. A different kind of venue is the 650-square-metre toy library, dedicated to play for children and adults. Together with the cultural venues and green spaces, these offerings provide several possible focuses for planning a trip rather than prescribing a single itinerary.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When looking for a hotel in Antony, you can start by considering whether you are more interested in wildlife and trails, historic buildings or specific cultural events. The greenways offer routes for walking and cycling; Maison des Arts has seasonal programmes, and the dates of the open stages change.
