The Eglise Saint-Claude in Luisans was built in 1822; its clock was installed in the same year. This shared date connects the building and its fittings with the history of the area. Two renovated Comtois bell towers also shape the landscape of Fournets-Luisans. Churches, religious tradition and distinctive natural features offer different ways to explore the destination. During your stay, you can choose which of these themes you would like to explore in greater depth.

Church History in Luisans

The Oratoire Saint-Claude is located two kilometres from the Eglise Saint-Claude. It is named after Saint Claude, the patron saint of the former parish of Luisans. During processions, the procession used to stop at the Oratoire to sing. The church and the Oratoire thus point to different aspects of the religious heritage: the Eglise is associated with the shared year of construction and clock installation, 1822, while the Oratoire is associated with the patron saint of the former parish and a historic processional tradition. These connections give local history a specific reference to both a date and a name.

Arboretum and Forest Landscape

The Arboretum du Lavot covers 30 hectares in a wooded area at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Guided tours with commentary lead visitors through the plant collections and the chapel. This brings botanical collections and a religious building together in a single guided visit. Prior confirmation may be required to organise a visit, so check in advance if you would like to include a tour in your plans.

The Sapin Président is a centuries-old silver fir that survived the storms of 20 July 1855 and 26 December 1999. It was chosen as the Sapin Président of the Fournets-Luisans forest. The two precisely named storms and the tree's selection give this natural feature its own story within the forest theme.

Hiking loops and mountain bike routes run through fir forests in the surrounding area. The shared landscape provides a useful basis for choosing between the two activities: both types of route pass through fir forest, but conditions may vary. Check the conditions on the specific route before making plans.

Fourneau de la Guémande

The Fourneau de la Guémande cave site is located in the Bois des Prés Juan. Access is currently described as difficult. Check local conditions before attempting a visit; this current restriction is part of planning for this natural attraction.

Domestic Life and the Tué

The Ferme-Musée du Montagnon shows how traditional homes in the Haut-Doubs were arranged, in a farmhouse built in 1736. At its centre is a Tué, a large hearth measuring 12.5 m². Morteau sausages, cured ham and Brési are smoked and dried in an authentic Tué.

This brings two aspects of the exhibition together: the presentation of traditional domestic life and the processing of regional products. The hearth's size and central role give the Tué a specific place in the description of the home; smoking and drying show its connection to the foods mentioned. Museum visits may be organised differently depending on the season. Check visiting arrangements in advance if you would like to include the Ferme-Musée in your plans.
