The washhouse in Vaux-sous-Aubigny has a zoomorphic spout in the shape of a lion’s mouth. For planning your trip, there is also a bus connection with a link to Dijon, two circular routes of different lengths, and a history of architecture and winemaking. This lets you consider travel, route profiles, and cultural history as separate questions.

Getting there by bus and train

Since January 1, 2024, TER-Fluo buses have run between Langres and Is-sur-Tille, stopping in Vaux-sous-Aubigny. From there, you can connect to the TER train to Dijon. If you are considering travelling by public transport, this connection is a practical option. Check the current timetable before setting off, as the bus journey and train connection must be timed to match.

Two circular routes with different profiles

Aventure Montsaugeonnaise is a 7.6-kilometre circular route marked with blue and yellow waymarks. It passes through the village, a valley, a river landscape, meadows, and woodland. Designed as a self-guided treasure hunt, it is both educational and playful. The route therefore combines a specific activity with a variety of landscapes.

Les Grandes Charmes is a 16-kilometre circular route through vineyards, forests, and heritage sites. It is also suitable for mountain biking and horseback riding. Check the route details before setting off.

The routes differ both in length and in the activities they offer: the 7.6-kilometre Aventure Montsaugeonnaise combines a circular route with a self-guided treasure hunt. At 16 kilometres, Les Grandes Charmes is more than twice as long and is also suitable for mountain biking and horseback riding. You can choose first based on the kind of route you want, then on distance.

Architectural history and regional traditions

The new Church of Notre-Dame de l'Immaculée Conception in Vaux-sous-Aubigny was consecrated in 1866. Saint-Symphorien in Aubigny-sur-Badin is the only surviving remnant of a former priory founded in the 11th century. The church was designated a Monument historique on February 21, 1914. These dates mark different milestones: the consecration of the church in Vaux-sous-Aubigny, the founding of the former priory, and the later protected status of Saint-Symphorien.

The history of the area also includes the Order of the Chevaliers du Montsaugeonnais. Since the order was revived, its members have gathered for the tournante Saint Vincent celebration in Vaux-sous-Aubigny. Because the celebration changes venue, check both the date and the location if you are planning a trip specifically for the event.

Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Auxerrois, and Gamay are grown across 14 hectares in four municipalities in southern Haute-Marne. Cultivation across several municipalities gives winemaking a regional scope, while the four grape varieties give this culinary connection specific names. This brings a regional perspective into view alongside the buildings.
