Five arches of the stone Pont de Doulaincourt span the Rognon; the Parcours botanique features perennial plants and themed flower beds in the village. Doulaincourt-Saucourt thus offers both nature and architectural history. When choosing what to explore, it is worth considering the different highlights: a botanical walk, a wetland, a challenging circular route and the Church of Saint-Martin.
Botanical Walk and Wetland
The Parcours botanique is an educational walk through the village. It focuses on perennial plants and themed flower beds; the signs explain plant species, their habitats and distinctive features. A DRAC description in the national programme dated 16 May 2025 mentions five themed areas spread across the village centre. The layout of the garden areas may change.
The Marais des Grand Prés offers a different nature experience: visitors can observe the local wildlife and plant life there. The trail focuses on plants described on information signs and landscaped beds, while the wetland puts the local flora and fauna centre stage. This makes it easy to choose between the two nature experiences according to your interests.
Les Grandes Combes: A Challenging Circular Route
Les Grandes Combes – PR N°52 is an 18-kilometre circular route starting and ending in Doulaincourt-Saucourt. It is graded difficult for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. The route follows the GRP Marne-Rognon into the Le Heu state forest and takes the historic Sentier à l’âne through beech woods. Its character also includes views of deep ridges and gorges. The forest sections and viewpoints set this route apart from the botanical trail with its landscaped beds. Before setting out, check the current trail conditions and waymarking, as both may change.
Church of Saint-Martin and Pont de Doulaincourt
The Church of Saint-Martin was completely rebuilt from 1732 to 1737 to replace an older building that had fallen into disrepair and become too small. The present bell-tower porch was built at the end of the 18th century, replacing the earlier bell tower. In 1877, the choir received stained-glass windows by the Reims glass artist Haussaire. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the complete rebuilding, the later bell-tower porch and the choir’s furnishings.
The church can be visited using the free Id-Vizit app, which offers personalised, interactive visitor routes. Check the availability of the app and its content before travelling.
The Pont de Doulaincourt adds another detail to the architectural history: it is a stone bridge with five arches over the Rognon and a single-arch relief bridge. While the church is explored through its construction phases and stained-glass windows, the focus at the Pont is on the bridge structure and its additional relief span.
