The Aujon flows through Longchamp-sur-Aujon from east to west before joining the Aube. The river is a tangible focal point for waterside activities; hiking, nature watching and the heritage of the hamlet of Outre-Aube are other options. When planning, decide whether you would like to focus on a hike, seasonal nature experiences or historic sites.

Hiking and long-distance trails

The « Les sources du bois de Longchamp » hiking trail is 8.4 kilometres long, hilly and rated moderate. It has 250 metres of ascent and takes 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours to walk. The route passes through the municipal forest near the Saint-Malachie and Puits Tripier springs and opened in 2025. Check the current route status locally before setting out.

The Via Francigena, a pilgrimage and long-distance walking route, also passes through the municipality. This gives you a choice of different types of hike: the « Les sources du bois de Longchamp » trail has a specified distance, ascent and walking time, while the Via Francigena is a pilgrimage route that crosses Longchamp-sur-Aujon. If you want to plan your day around a specific walking time, the first trail provides a clear reference point.

Landscape and nature watching

The hilly landscapes of the Haute Vallée de l’Aube surround Longchamp-sur-Aujon. The Coteau du Bois du Gravelon is a designated natural site: a continental ZNIEFF type 1. It covers 53.84 hectares and includes downy oak woodland and xerophilous oak-beech woodland. Xerophilous means adapted to dry conditions and describes a characteristic of this woodland type.

Seasonal nature watching includes spotting roe deer, wild boar, deer, many bird species and wild orchids. Mushroom picking is another seasonal nature activity; mushrooms found include chanterelles, fairy-ring mushrooms and porcini. Follow access conditions and local rules when picking.

Waterside activities and cycling

Canoeing is available on the Aujon at Longchamp-sur-Aujon. Water conditions and providers may vary. Fishing is also possible on sections of the Aube and Aujon classified as first-category waters. Check access arrangements and licence requirements in advance.

Road cycling, gravel biking and mountain biking are listed in and around Longchamp-sur-Aujon. Together with the hiking trail, they offer various ways to explore the hilly landscape actively; choose an activity to suit the kind of outing you have planned.

Heritage in Outre-Aube

The Ancienne grange d’Outre-Aube was associated with Clairvaux Abbey from the 12th century. It has been protected as a historic monument since 8 April 1998. Its historic connection to the abbey and its later protected status are two distinct aspects of its history.

The Grange Saint-Bernard in the hamlet of Outre-Aube has different visiting arrangements: visits are possible by prior appointment, and artisanal soap-making is offered there. Arrange a visit before travelling. A municipal notice dated 25 January 2026 also described the revue « Folie Longchamp » by the troupe Les 3 Plumes as part of a dinner-show cabaret lasting more than three hours. If you would like to include this revue in your plans, check the event dates in advance.
