Six Corinthian columns form part of the baldachin over the main altar in Saint-Nicolas Church in Belval. The altar dates from the 18th century and is classified as a protected historic object. The church was inaugurated in 1831. For those interested in culture, these are two distinct dates: the century indicates when the altar was created, while 1831 is the year the church was inaugurated. This places the furnishings in their historical context and offers a tangible starting point for exploring Belval’s cultural history.
Walking routes and landscape
The “De la pierre à l’ardoise” discovery route includes two circular walks between Belval and Rocroi. Each is designed to take less than an hour and is divided into three to four stages. The duration and number of stages answer different planning questions: the time indicates the expected duration of each walk, while the stages show how it is divided. This gives you both a shared time frame and a specific breakdown to compare the two options.
A few dozen metres after the Belval exit, the route enters the Parc naturel régional des Ardennes and offers a view over the Val de Sormonne. The valley is an agricultural landscape named after the river, with hedgerows and orchards. Some of the Parc naturel régional des Ardennes’ most remarkable aquatic species are found there. This part of the trip therefore focuses on the valley views and the character of the regional landscape—a different emphasis from the church’s furnishings.
Airfield and experiences by appointment
Aérodrome des Ardennes–Étienne Riché is open to public air traffic. The A304 is very close by, via the Belval junction. These are separate planning considerations: the airfield relates to air travel, while the motorway information concerns road access. You can take each into account separately when planning your journey.
From Belval airfield, ULM Ardennes offers a discovery flight for one person. Flights are available by appointment. If you would like to plan this experience, you should arrange an appointment first. This distinguishes the discovery flight from the walking routes, each of which is stated to take less than an hour.
A sporting alternative
Macerienne Tennis has five indoor courts, seven outdoor courts and a clubhouse. The separate figures show the two types of court and provide a concrete basis for choosing. A tennis court can be rented; we recommend contacting the club directly to ask about availability for your preferred time. This adds a sporting option to the choice of church art, routes and a flying experience.
Holiday rental and trip planning
When looking for a holiday rental in Belval, it helps to first decide what you would like to focus on during your stay. If you would like to include culture, you can take the church and its protected main altar as a starting point; for a tour with a defined duration, the walking routes provide a useful planning guide. The discovery flight is different, as it is offered for one person and by appointment. This lets you compare a cultural theme, routes with a clearly stated time frame and a flying experience that must be arranged in advance as distinct parts of your trip. Which of these matters most for your trip depends on your own interests.
