Viglain offers several specific points of interest for a trip: hiking trails with different landmarks, natural features, and cultural heritage ranging from a medieval bell to a 20th-century mosaic. There is also golf and a farm with organic fruit and vegetables. Those who want to spend time outdoors can choose between hiking and cycling routes; visitors interested in culture can focus on the church, mosaic and historical sources. The sites can be explored in different ways: as a circular trail, as a spring visible from the road, or as a mosaic on public display.

Hiking with a variety of waypoints

For a hike, the PR de Lousseau P19 circular trail offers a clear time frame: it is 10 km long, rated very easy and takes about 2 hours and 50 minutes. Its route passes the golf course and runs alongside the golf club building, making the course a specific landmark along the trail. The PR des Fougères P18 passes between two ponds and also crosses the golf course. On the PR de Pailly–Les Mahis P20, crossing the Aulne River is another notable section. This gives hikers a practical distinction when choosing: P19 offers distance and approximate duration as planning measures, while the ponds and river define the routes of P18 and P20.

Nature and route connections

Viglain is part of the Natura 2000 network and includes two ZNIEFF sites, meaning natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. Viglain also lies on the Loire à Vélo cycle route, as well as the historic Vallée des Rois trail and the Route des Illustres. The latter is connected with the history of Jaucourt and Château de Baffou. Those who want to focus on cycling will find a different point of reference in the Loire à Vélo than on the historic trails. The routes can therefore be distinguished by activity and theme without combining them into a single circular trail.

Church, bell and mosaic

Saint-André Church can be understood through its construction history and architectural details: it originally dates from 1154 and was rebuilt under Henry IV. It also features a traditional Sologne caquetoire, a covered porch considered characteristic of churches in the Sologne. The medieval Saint-Sylvain bell is also housed in the church. Dating from 1403, it is one of the oldest bells in the Loiret département. The Saint Hubert mosaic offers a different period and material: it was made entirely from Briare enamel in the 1960s. It is on public display opposite the church square, between the library and the school canteen. Together, these cultural traces span the church’s construction history and a 20th-century mosaic, and can be identified through different features.

Springs as historical landmarks and points of reference

The springs differ in how they can be viewed: the Saint-André spring is on private property but can be seen from the Route de Tigy. In the past, people invoked it to treat whooping cough, which attracted numerous pilgrims. This historical tradition describes the spring’s former reputation. The Saint-Antoine du Béon spring lies near the bridge over the Aulne and can be seen on a hike along the CR14. The two sites therefore offer different points of reference: at Saint-André, the view from the Route de Tigy; at Saint-Antoine du Béon, the bridge and hiking trail.

Golf and regional produce

The Golf de Sully sur Loire in Viglain has a 27-hole course with water hazards and tree-lined fairways. While the hiking trails pass through the golf course, here the focus is on the course’s own features. The Ferme de l'Aulnoy offers another local attraction: the farm grows organic fruit and vegetables and sells its produce directly at the farm and at the markets in Sully-sur-Loire. Those who want to include regional products in their stay can consider these two sales outlets as different options.
