Reignac-Sur-Indre lies on the banks of the Indre, where the river has carved a valley into the plateau. This gives a stay a distinct landscape setting. There is also a hiking trail between Reignac-Sur-Indre and Azay-sur-Indre, a section of the Indre-à-Vélo cycle route, and historical landmarks in the village. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can plan your trip around your own interests: walking in the valley, a cycling tour or the history of the church and dolmens.

Hiking in the Indre Valley

The “La Fayette dans la Vallée de L’Indre” hiking trail connects Reignac-Sur-Indre and Azay-sur-Indre. You can start in either village. The stated distance is 14.2 kilometres, and the duration is 3 hours 35 minutes. Between the villages, the trail passes through the green Indre Valley, a forest and across the agricultural plateau. The distance and duration give you a specific time and route framework for planning your hike. You can get a map and description of the route at the town hall. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

A different perspective by bike

A section of the Indre-à-Vélo cycle route passes by Reignac-Sur-Indre. The route uses small roads shared with other traffic; there is no separate path for cyclists. This clearly distinguishes how the cycling route is used from the hiking trail. Road surfaces and traffic arrangements may vary locally. Check conditions along the route before your tour.

Church, dolmens and local history

Inside Saint-Étienne Church, there is a large stained-glass window on the north wall of the nave. Signed by A Clément in 1887, it depicts the martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the patron saint of the parish. The bell tower dates from the 9th or 10th century and is one of the oldest in Touraine. Check visiting arrangements in advance if you have specific plans to visit.

The megalithic dolmen in the meadow at La Guignardière has now collapsed; it was 4.30 metres long. The Reignac dolmen lies near the Indre, between the Guignardière stream and the wall of the château grounds. It is rectangular and faces southeast; its capstone measures 4.80 × 3 metres. Their condition, orientation and dimensions make the two descriptions specific, without equating their very different historical details.

A commemorative plaque was installed at the Café Brulé roundabout in 2020. Compared with the bell tower, it is a more recent and clearly dated element of local history. Reignac-Sur-Indre thus brings together traces of different eras, from its far-reaching architectural history to a plaque from the 21st century.

Planning your stay

When planning your trip, you can weigh up the different options: the hiking trail has a specified distance and duration, the cycle route uses roads shared with other traffic, and the church and dolmens provide historical highlights. This can help you decide how much time you would like to spend on outdoor activities and culture, without assuming a set itinerary.
