In Betz-Le-Château, medieval fortress history, a narrative church window, and a marked long-distance hiking trail come together. The Plan d’Eau Communal also offers a place for individual or family recreation. This makes it possible to tailor your stay to different interests: historic monuments and visual art form a cultural and historical focus, the Chemin de l’évêque de Tours appeals to hikers, and Maison Galland offers regional products. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding first whether you want to set aside time mainly for culture, the trail, or a variety of activities.

Castle Ruins and the Saint Martin Window

The ruins of Château de Betz have been listed as a historic monument since April 21, 1937. The château is an authentic medieval fortress with the characteristic features of a castle. In summer 2026, visits to the grounds and underground areas were open daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., from July 6 to August 31. For later visits, please check the dates then in effect; the hours given here apply to summer 2026.

The stained-glass window Charité de saint Martin is in the Church of Saint-Etienne, to the right of the apse chapel, a chapel in the area at the end of the church. The stained-glass artist Julien Fournier from Touraine created it in 1895. It depicts Saint Martin as a Roman horseman with a halo: he cuts his cloak in two to give one half to a poor man. The cloak is the focus of the scene; its division makes the gift depicted clear. By contrast, the château evokes medieval fortress architecture, while the window is a later work of art, dated 1895. A cultural and historical visit can therefore take in architecture and visual art as distinct points of interest.

Hiking, Recreation, and Regional Products

The Chemin de l’évêque de Tours passes through Betz-Le-Château and is part of a marked 236-kilometer route from Poitiers to Tours. Its length and two endpoints make the trail a specific focus for planning your trip. You can choose Betz-Le-Château for a cultural and historical stay or consider the town in connection with the route. If you would like to combine both, set aside separate time for hiking and the cultural attractions.

The Plan d’Eau Communal adds another kind of leisure activity to the mix: it is intended for individual or family use. Public access is possible on foot and by road. Check the current access arrangements locally before your visit. This lets you plan time by the water as a separate activity, apart from the hiking route and cultural attractions.

At Maison Galland in Betz-Le-Château, the selection includes farm-made charcuterie such as Rillons de Touraine and Rillettes de Tours IGP, as well as Roi Rose pork, preserves, fruit juices, and wines. This adds a culinary selection to the cultural and outdoor activities. The range may change; if you are looking for a specific product, check availability in advance.
