Happonvilliers offers several distinct points of interest: the mosaic gardens of the Jardins de la Feuilleraie, a cycling loop, and the annual brocante. The local character therefore ranges from garden art and its imagery to a longer outdoor activity and a recurring event. These are clearly distinct highlights to consider when planning a trip.

Mosaic Gardens with Two Visual Languages

The Jardins de la Feuilleraie is a park and garden complex in Happonvilliers. It includes two mosaic gardens named “Rose” and “Blue.” The artist Hurfane, a former teacher of classical literature, created both between 1980 and 2000. Around 500 m² of mosaics are spread across terraces, pools, pillars, walls, and planters. Various elements of the garden complex are thus also incorporated into the mosaic designs.

In the “Rose” garden, the mosaics depict familiar animals, flowers, and scenes from rural life in the past. This imagery brings together natural motifs and depictions of country life. The Blue Garden strikes a different note: its arabesques evoke the sea, the sky, and the passage of time. Concrete motifs and abstract forms thus sit side by side, while the two gardens pursue different visual ideas.

A Cycling Loop with a Defined Route

The “Doux plateaux et premiers reliefs du Perche” cycling loop is a very easy 27.5-kilometre road-cycling circuit. The estimated duration is around three hours. The route follows scenic roads along forest edges and through fields, and is suitable for families.

Near the town centre, the route passes the communal washhouse. There is a spot under the trees where you can stop for a picnic. The tour information was last updated on June 17, 2025; route details may change. Check the latest information before setting out.

The mosaic gardens offer a cultural highlight, with their concrete motifs and design elements. The cycling loop, by contrast, can be assessed in terms of distance, approximate duration, and route character. Happonvilliers thus offers two different options for planning a trip: garden art or a longer activity by bike.

Landscape Setting and Annual Event

Happonvilliers lies within the Natura 2000 “Forêts et étangs du Perche” bird protection area (site code FR2512004). The protected area covers a total of 47,681 hectares. Its size broadens the perspective beyond the individual garden complex and cycling loop to a wider landscape context. For travellers who take protected areas into account when choosing a destination, this designation provides a specific link to nature.

Another local occasion is the annual Brocante d'Happonvilliers, organised by the Comité des Fêtes d'Happonvilliers. If you would like to plan your trip specifically around the brocante, check the event date for the relevant year.
