Discover Villeperrot through three distinctive features: a Romanesque village church, the Via Senonensis and an elevated viewpoint overlooking the Yonne Valley. Each offers a different focus when choosing what to explore: architecture, the history of pilgrimage, or landscape views.

Romanesque church and named figures

The Église Saint-Hilaire-et-Saint-Eutrope is a rural Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. It has been listed as a historic monument by decree since 11 February 1929. Its construction period describes its architectural classification, while its protected status adds a legal and historical perspective. Two stone statues depict Saint-Hilaire, a bishop, and Saint-Vincent. Alongside its date, these figures give the church two specific religious points of reference.

Villeperrot on the Via Senonensis

Villeperrot is listed as Marker No. 7 on the Via Senonensis. The historic pilgrimage route runs between Paris and Vézelay. This brings together two different scales when choosing what to explore: Villeperrot as a named point and the Via Senonensis as a pilgrimage route between the two cities. For travellers interested in the history of religious routes, this offers a different focus from the church itself.

QR-code signage was installed along every stage in 2026. It provides information about the heritage and history of the places along the route, the route itself, and accommodation and shops. Check the current status of the signage before travelling.

Views over the Yonne Valley

The Colline des 17 villes is an elevated viewpoint overlooking the Yonne Valley. In the 18th century, it was known as “la montagne.” The two names represent different historical layers of the same place: one identifies the viewpoint, the other its historical name. This adds a distinct landscape dimension to the architectural and pilgrimage history.

Traditions and insights into local history

The Fête des Lumières is a local Christmas tradition held in the village church. Events took place in 2023 and 2025; dates vary. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, check the dates of the events in question.

Viticulture is also part of Villeperrot’s history: a winemaking tradition under the controlled designation “Vin François” dates back to 1416. The town hall also houses a permanent exhibition that you can visit. Access arrangements may vary; check them before your visit.

A market in the park of the Manoir de l’Onde

In 2024, the second edition of a craft market was held in the park of the Manoir de l’Onde. Local craftspeople offered handmade goods. For this edition, the event area included a terrace on the banks of the Yonne, a picnic area and a children’s playground. If you are planning a trip around an event date, check it in advance.
