Jussy offers two clearly numbered circular routes and a multi-village walk through three wine-growing villages. When planning, you can choose between a circular route starting in Jussy and a route that also includes Escolives-Sainte-Camille and Coulanges-la-Vineuse.
Two circular routes starting in Jussy
Circular Route No. 25, “devant la ville,” starts in Jussy, is 7.2 kilometres long and takes two hours. It offers a view of the village and its church, with a balustrade described as protected. Circular Route No. 26, “du Tourbenay,” also starts in the village, is five kilometres long and takes one hour and 15 minutes. No. 26 is therefore shorter and takes less time; No. 25 also offers the described view of the village and church. When choosing, you can take both the time required and the viewpoint into account.
A walk through three wine-growing villages
La randonnée des trois clochers passes through Escolives-Sainte-Camille, Jussy and Coulanges-la-Vineuse. The walk is accessible year-round and suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding. It offers an alternative to the circular routes if visiting several places in sequence or travelling by a particular means of transport is important to your plans. Local conditions may change; check them before setting out.
Hillsides, woodland and a spring
Jussy is known for wine and fruit growing; its hillsides, with vineyards and orchards, shape the landscape. During cherry blossom season, they create a seasonal floral landscape. Depending on the time of year, you can find lily of the valley or wild asparagus in Bois de la Garenne, which lies along a walking trail starting in Jussy. The Source de Tourbenay also flows year-round along a route starting in Jussy. Seasonal plants and the spring that flows throughout the year thus offer contrasting natural features. The soils in the area around Jussy are made up of clay and limestone and are rich in marine fossils, which bear witness to an earlier marine environment. This geological history adds another perspective to the visible hillsides and walking destinations.
Église Notre-Dame and Grande Rue
Église Notre-Dame has been protected as a historic monument under a protection order dated 16 February 2012. It retains a nave dating from the 12th century and part of its timber structure. Inside are a polychrome wooden Christ, a seated Burgundian Madonna and Saint Anne. During the Wars of Religion, most of Jussy was burned down; the church and a few houses were spared by the fire. The village thus brings together architectural history and a defining historical turning point. On Grande Rue, you can see winemakers’ houses, often with round-arched doorways and cellar entrances. This streetscape adds another specific architectural feature to the church.
