Merceuil offers different reasons to stay: the Étangs d’Or focus on ponds and birdwatching, while “L’Instant Beaun’Heur” focuses on watchmaking. The Church of Saint-Laurent adds architectural history spanning several periods to these themes. You can therefore consider nature, craftsmanship and architecture as distinct interests and decide what you would like to make the main focus of your trip.

Ponds, Birds and Walks

The Les Étangs d’Or leisure park near Merceuil-Tailly covers more than 200 hectares and includes 16 ponds. Viewing points along the edges of the ponds offer the opportunity to observe herons, kingfishers and coots. These species give birdwatching in the area a specific focus.

Near Merceuil, the Étangs d’Or offer walks for families, fishing and the chance to explore natural habitats. These activities appeal to different interests: you can focus your visit on a walk, fishing or birdwatching. The Étangs d’Or are open daily, and admission is free. Check the opening conditions before your visit.

Watchmaking by Appointment

The “Expérience Horlogerie à l’Instant Beaun’Heur” activity in Merceuil offers either a discovery stay focused on watchmaking or an introductory course. This gives you two formats to choose from within the same field: a stay centered on watchmaking or an introduction in the form of a course.

In 2026, the activity can be booked from January 1 to December 31 by prior appointment. Check availability before your trip and arrange your appointment in advance.

The Architectural History of the Church of Saint-Laurent

The Church of Saint-Laurent is located on Rue du Bourg. Historical accounts distinguish three construction phases. The oldest part dates from the time of Charlemagne, from the late 8th to the early 9th century. The choir belongs to the late medieval period and is Gothic in style.

The early section and the late medieval choir point to clearly distinct periods of construction. Anyone interested in the history of the church will find more than a single construction date: its building phases span the time of Charlemagne through to the late medieval period.

Walking Trail and Directions

The 1.5-kilometer “Sentier du Hérisson” walking trail is signposted in the Merceuil area. Its precise length gives you a useful reference point if you would like to include a walk in your plans.

To reach the Étangs d’Or from Beaune, take the Beaune-Centre exit on the A6, then follow the D23 towards Merceuil. Check road conditions before setting out.

Planning Your Stay

An appointment is required in advance for the watchmaking activity, while the Étangs d’Or are open daily. This means different planning timelines: check availability for the watchmaking experience in advance, and check the park’s opening conditions before your visit.
