The Plain Saint-Laurent hill dominates Daix and offers panoramic views over Dijon and the Dijon plain. Trails, a church and historic buildings add specific themes to this landscape for a stay: outdoor activities, art and architectural history.

Trails and landscapes

The trail by the Butte Chaumont reservoir crosses the hillsides, offers views of the Ouche Valley and then reaches the centre of Daix. It is marked as Circular Route 46 and is 8 km long. Vegetation and visibility can vary by season. The distance gives you a concrete reference for planning your day. Check the latest route information before setting out, as markings and conditions may change.

The Bonvaux Priory grounds are now home to an equestrian centre. They include numerous bridle paths through 140 hectares of woodland and pasture. The equestrian centre’s terms of use, as well as the availability of and access to the paths, may change; check before making specific plans. For choosing the focus of your activities, there are two different options: a marked circular route and numerous bridle paths.

Art and local history

Saint-Laurent Church was rebuilt in the present-day village of Daix after the former church was demolished, and was consecrated on 21 April 1850. The rolled-up painting “Cheval blanc” was found in its sacristy; it was identified as an incomplete copy of a work by Pierre Paul Rubens.

Daix town hall houses copies of two paintings by Jean-Baptiste Lallemand; the originals are held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. Exhibition locations may change. The discovery story of “Cheval blanc” is part of the local art theme; Lallemand’s paintings offer a way to trace the relationship between the copies in Daix and the originals in Dijon.

The Champmoron estate also has a long history: in 1240, its owner granted the religious order at Bonvaux grazing rights there. In 1666, the prior of the Carthusian monastery restored the estate and added a chapel. The two dates represent different aspects: the use of the pastures and a later structural alteration.

The Ferme de Champmoron comprises stone buildings on a wooded hillside. The main buildings are arranged over three levels and accessed through an arched passageway. The hillside setting, building material and vertical layout give you concrete points of reference for understanding the complex’s architecture.

The history of the area also includes the Daix washhouse: in 1810, a municipal council decision noted that it was in a severe state of disrepair and resolved to rebuild it entirely.
