Aloxe-Corton can be explored through its winegrowing, village history and walking routes in the surrounding area. For your stay, you can focus on tastings, historic buildings or viewpoints. The AOP classifies wine by region and Climats; buildings and squares offer clues to the village’s history.

Winegrowing and tastings

The Aloxe-Corton AOP covers red or white Burgundy wines from the CĂ´te de Beaune wine region. It includes, among others, 14 Climats classified as Premier Cru and three Climats classified as Grand Cru. The region of origin and the Climat classification therefore offer different points of reference: CĂ´te de Beaune names the wine region, while the Climats mentioned are classified within the AOP. If you learn about the appellation before a tasting, you can distinguish these regional details from the classification levels.

The Caveau d'Aloxe-Corton offers tastings and sells red and white wines from the village and surrounding communities. It was established in 1975 at the initiative of several winegrowers as a shared venue in the village centre. The Caveau is therefore focused both on its shared origins and on tastings and sales. Visitor offerings may change; check the current arrangements before your trip.

Another option is the Table d’Hôtes at Domaine Comte Senard, where a wine tasting is offered with a Burgundian lunch. Reservations are required for this offer; check the current arrangements in advance. Unlike the Caveau, which offers tastings and wine sales, the Table d’Hôtes explicitly combines the tasting with lunch. This lets you distinguish between the offerings based on their respective formats, without assuming a duration or fixed schedule.

Walking routes, views and landscape

The Butte de Corton is accessible by paths and roads and is suitable for hiking and photography. Local access details may change; check the conditions before your trip. The Butte therefore offers a different focus from the wine tastings: here, walking and photography take centre stage.

The Chapitre d’Autun vineyards are also described in Aloxe-Corton as a route section and viewpoint. Nearby, the “Circuit n° 3 – Le Tour de la Butte de Corton” loop also offers a view of Aloxe-Corton. The route is therefore another way to look out over the village; it should not be confused with the name of the Chapitre d’Autun vineyards. Check local conditions before hiking.

Village history and historic buildings

Place du Chapitre was the centre of the old village of Aloxe-Corton. The Clos du Chapitre is also part of this historical context: in Aloxe-Corton, it is a winegrowing area known in the land registry as “Les Meix.” The village apparently developed around this area. The Place and the Clos therefore offer different clues for understanding the village’s history: one was the centre of the old village, while the other is linked to winegrowing and the development of the settlement.

The châteaux tell different stories of their construction. Château Corton Grancey was built in Aloxe-Corton in 1749 on the site of a former quarry. Today’s Château de Corton-André, by contrast, was created between 1895 and 1900 by remodelling an 18th-century house. Château de Corton-André is listed as a historic monument in France. The dates help distinguish the construction of Château Corton Grancey from the later transformation of the house into today’s Château de Corton-André.

The Church of Saint-Médard also adds to this picture of the village’s architectural history: it was built in 1890–1891, replacing an older chapel dating from the 15th or 16th century. The different dates show that the village’s history is not limited to a single building phase. Winegrowing, the village centre and its buildings each offer a distinct perspective on Aloxe-Corton—from the classified Climats to changes made to the church and châteaux.
