Nostang brings together the coastal landscape of the Étel Ria and a rich history of churches and chapels. The commune has 11 km of shoreline along the ria; salt marshes are especially prominent in the Anse du Cosquer and southwest of Pointe du Gouarde. If you are looking for a hotel in Nostang, you can plan your stay around three interests: the ria and salt marshes, historic buildings, or a specific, clearly described route.

Ria, Salt Marshes and Woodland

Numerous stands of trees, predominantly maritime pine, shape Nostang, along with deciduous woodland on the valley slopes. When comparing the landscape, the shorelines and salt marshes sit alongside the wooded slopes. You can decide whether your trip should focus more on the ria landscape or on the woodland and valleys.

Churches and Chapels from Different Periods

The Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul is laid out in the shape of a Latin cross and was rebuilt between 1681 and 1686. Its spire was hit by a German shell on January 17, 1945. Locmaria Chapel adds a different historical layer: its tall nave is entirely decorated with 15th-century paintings depicting figures against an arabesque background. From 1681 to 1685, parish services were held there while the new church in Nostang was being built. The older paintings and the chapel’s later use during the church’s construction are thus connected.

The other chapels each offer a different perspective. Saint-Symphorien and Saint-Maurice was built in the 16th century. Renaissance and Gothic styles coexist at Notre-Dame-de-Légevin Chapel; a Renaissance doorway is located on the nave’s south facade. The chapel was a pilgrimage centre. Another named building is Saint-Bieuzy, also known as Saint-Georges, where a 15th-century tracery window in the Flamboyant Gothic style has been preserved.

The site at the Kergo spring broadens the picture beyond churches and chapels. It includes a Neolithic polishing stone, an ancient stele, a spring and a washhouse. If you are interested in different kinds of heritage, Kergo offers a distinct focus alongside the religious buildings.

Choosing a Route by Length and Character

The circular route “Découvrir Nostang, de la Ria d’Étel à Saint-Ernan” is about 4 km long, marked in green, and starts at the car park opposite the municipal workshop. It follows wooded paths and coastal trails. Check the markings on site before setting off.

The Nostang chapter of “L’Anneau de Waroch,” documented in 2025, is titled “L’Anneau de Pouvoir,” is 5 km long and starts at the car park behind Nostang church. Check the chapter’s current availability and the signage on site beforehand. In terms of distance, the circular route is about one kilometre shorter than the chapter—a useful comparison when deciding how much to include in your day’s plans.
