Photography, crafts and nature reveal different sides of La Gacilly. The Photo La Gacilly Festival takes you on foot through open-air galleries; at the Cité des Métiers d’art, you can watch craftspeople at work, and the Observatoire de la biodiversité draws attention to animal and plant species. The kind of experience you want is therefore key to choosing your focus: a photography trail, insights into craft activities or nature observation. The Jardin Botanique Yves Rocher, an immersive museum and the Menhir de la Roche Piquée add further specific themes to the mix.

Photography and Crafts

The Photo La Gacilly Festival was launched in 2004. Its immersive format takes visitors on foot through around twenty open-air galleries. The route combines viewing the photographs with moving from one gallery to the next. The programme changes each year; if the festival is a key part of your trip, check which edition is scheduled for your dates.

The Cité des Métiers d’art in La Gacilly offers a different kind of cultural discovery. In workshops on the descent to the Aff, you can watch sculptors, potters, jewellery makers, coppersmiths and glassblowers at work. At the festival, the focus is on photographs; here, it is on craft activities. This is a concrete distinction to consider when planning your cultural visits: would you rather view images along a walking route or see craftspeople at work?

Botanical Garden and Biodiversity

The Jardin Botanique Yves Rocher was established in 1975 and covers two hectares in La Gacilly. The Observatoire de la biodiversité is also in La Gacilly, on an eight-hectare site. In terms of area, the Observatoire site is four times as large as the garden. This makes it easy to distinguish the two places by scale and theme: a botanical garden on the one hand, biodiversity on the other.

Visitors to the Observatoire can discover more than 300 animal and plant species. An ornithological hide allows visitors to observe local birds without disturbing them. The species you can observe vary with the season, so the time of year is worth considering if you plan to observe nature and birds. Access conditions for the botanical garden may vary; check them before your visit.

Museum and Rural Heritage

The Musée Immersif Yves Rocher in La Gacilly presents the history, know-how and committed values of the Yves Rocher brand. Its dynamic, multisensory route takes visitors through five rooms. Allow 45 minutes for your visit; tours start every 15 minutes. Check the opening times before your visit. This makes the museum a clearly defined itinerary stop alongside the festival’s more extensive walking route.

The Menhir de la Roche Piquée is also part of La Gacilly’s preserved rural heritage. If you want to include rural heritage among your chosen themes as well as photography and crafts, the menhir is a specific point of interest. The cultural attractions mentioned here therefore range from the festival route and workshops to a named feature of local heritage.
