Brignac offers several distinct points of interest: a parish church with a striking architectural design and historic features, the leafy Étang de la Maladrerie, and the VP 19 circuit. Together, they span architectural and art history, outdoor relaxation and a heritage-focused route. When planning your trip, you can decide whether church architecture, a walk and fishing, or the circuit’s cultural focus is your priority.

Church and historic features

The Eglise Saint Barthélémy is a 15th-century parish church. Its floor plan follows that of a single-nave Latin cross with just one transept arm. The term “single-nave” refers to the single longitudinal space; the transept arm forms part of the cross-shaped plan. This means the church can be appreciated not only for its age but also for a specific architectural feature.

Its features include an 18th-century polychrome altarpiece and the large 16th-century stained-glass window “Le grand vitrail.” The window is listed in the Monuments Historiques register and depicts two coats of arms. The dates invite comparison across three periods: the parish church dates from the 15th century, the window from the 16th, and the altarpiece from the 18th. For those interested in culture, the church’s design, its different historical layers and a specific detail in the stained-glass window all come together.

Relaxation at the Étang de la Maladrerie

The leafy surroundings of the Étang de la Maladrerie offer opportunities to relax and go for a walk; fishing is also possible there. These are different ways to enjoy the same place: you can focus on a walk or a quieter time in the greenery, while fishing offers another activity. The pond therefore offers a different experience from the architecture and features of the parish church.

A community trout-stocking event takes place at the Étang every April. If you would like to plan your stay around this period, check local dates before travelling.

VP 19 circuit and other local details

The VP 19 circuit offers a chance to discover the heritage of the communes of Brignac and Saint-Brieuc-de-Mauron. It runs along the edge of the Brocéliande Forest. For trip planning, this offers a different approach to cultural history than the parish church alone: the circuit draws attention to the heritage of two communes, while the church focuses on a single building, its design and features.

The Fontaine Saint Barthélémy is hidden in a meadow beside the road to La Ville-au-Lô. According to a local account, the good weather only returned after an object was given back to its owner. The story does not specify what the object was.

Seasonal cuisine

La Maison de Manon serves moules-frites and traditional calf’s head dishes, depending on the season. The menu is seasonal; check in advance which dishes are available during your trip.
