Brech’s character is shaped by an orchard preserving traditional fruit varieties, farming history and religious heritage. The clearly stated route details are also useful for planning: two walking trails differ in length and starting point, while a cycling route is devoted specifically to the area’s historical and religious heritage.

Orchard and farming history

The Saint-Dégan orchard, which preserves traditional fruit varieties, covers six hectares and safeguards more than 200 varieties of fruit trees. It is classified as an Espace Naturel Sensible (Sensitive Natural Area). The orchard is open year-round; admission is free and visits are self-guided, and an audio trail can be downloaded. As visiting arrangements may change, check the latest conditions in advance.

Since 1969, the Écomusée du Pays d'Auray–Saint-Dégan has documented rural life as it was before 1950. It also offers activities, workshops, tours and events throughout the year. In addition, the Écomusée houses the only permanent exhibition in Brittany featuring paintings by Lucien Pouëdras. The programme and exhibition arrangements may change; check the latest visitor information in advance.

Chapels and monastic history

The Chapelle Saint-Quirin, also known as the Chapelle de Saint-Guérin, dates from the 17th century. It is a Breton shrine and a stop for pilgrims on their way to Sainte-Anne-d’Auray. The chapel contains a classical altarpiece regarded as the finest in Morbihan.

The Chapelle Saint-Jacques was built in 1464 and is listed as a historic monument. On 24 July 2018, Brech was declared a Way of St James parish through the Chapelle Saint-Jacques. At the Champ des Martyrs, the site is classified as a historic monument; the penitential chapel there was built in 1823–1824 in the Neoclassical style.

La Chartreuse was formerly a Carthusian monastery. The Carthusians settled there in 1482 and were expelled in 1791. La Chartreuse offers guided tours throughout the year. As access arrangements may change, check the latest visitor information in advance.

Walking trails, cycling route and scenery

The Circuit des Demoiselles Bleues is 3.8 kilometres long and starts at Place Kreisker in the centre of Brech. The Circuit de Saint-Dégan is eight kilometres long and starts in the village of Saint-Dégan. These specific differences in route length and starting point are useful when planning a walk; check local route conditions before setting out.

The Circuit des chapelles is a 25-kilometre cycling route devoted to Brech’s historical and religious heritage. The route is considered easy and can be walked or cycled year-round; seasonal conditions and the state of the route may change. Here, too, check local route conditions before setting out. The Tréauray pond offers another perspective on the landscape: it covers 23 hectares, and a woodland path runs along one of its banks.
