Baud offers several distinct ways to explore its culture and landscape: an extensive postcard collection, the interactive displays at the Le Carton Voyageur museum, a 17th-century chapel, terraced gardens and circular trails. There are also cycling trips combined with kayaking or canoeing. This gives you a choice of different focuses for your stay: historic sites and collections, gardens or an activity on the water. From a single cultural site to a 12 km circular trail, there are very different ways to discover Baud.

Postcards and Interactive Museum Displays

Le Carton Voyageur preserves several thousand postcards dating from 1872 to the present day. This broad span of time makes the collection a common thread for anyone who wants to get to know Baud through postcards and the different periods in which they were produced. The permanent exhibition features contemporary, interactive displays. These include a 3D depiction of the 1900s, a photo studio, an interactive Ankou and accessible correspondence. Cards, spatial displays, photography and interaction are all brought together. Depending on your interests, you can focus on the collection or on the different ways it is presented. Individual installations may change; if you are visiting specifically to see one of these features, check in advance whether it is part of the current exhibition.

The Chapel and Gardens as Cultural Destinations in Their Own Right

The Chapelle Saint-Jacques de Crann is in the village of Crann, 2 km from Baud town centre, within a tree-lined enclosure. The 17th-century chapel was built from granite rubble and is dedicated to Saint James and Saint Isidore. Its age, materials and dedication give a visit a clear historical context. A virtual tour of the chapel is also available.

The Jardins de la Vénus de Quinipily offer a different focus: the romantic terraced gardens were created to showcase the Venus statue. The Vénus de Quinipily was brought to Quinipily in 1696. Rhododendrons, camellias, hydrangeas, heather, roses and other perennials shape the gardens. Here, the statue and landscaped terraces take centre stage; at the chapel, the architecture, tree-lined setting and religious dedication draw attention to the building itself.

Circular Trails and Former Trades

The Circuit des landes de Kerbraz is 12 km long and starts at the Chapelle Saint-Jacques de Cranne in Baud. The trail leads to an old granite quarry and a Christianised menhir. Its length and these two named destinations make it a different choice from visiting a single cultural site. It lets you include a longer walk in your plans without treating the sights along the route as standalone destinations in Baud.

Another themed option is the Circuit des « Métiers d’autrefois ». The circular trail introduces children to the trades that were once practised in Baud. It focuses on working life in the past, while the Kerbraz trail foregrounds specific destinations along the route. The two options therefore differ both in theme and in the stated distance: the Circuit des landes de Kerbraz is 12 km long, while the métiers trail centres on introducing visitors to former trades.

Cycling, Kayaking and Canoeing

The Club Nautique de Baud combines cycling trips with kayaking or canoeing. It also offers canoe trips on the Blavet. This adds a combination of land-based outings and water activities to the cultural and garden destinations. If you are planning this particular combination, check the club’s current conditions in advance.

When choosing accommodation, you can think of Baud as a destination with a range of cultural and active options: postcards and interactive displays at the museum, chapels and gardens, a longer circular trail or activities offered by the water sports club. Which of these options you include depends on whether you would rather spend your time exploring collections, historic buildings, a garden or an activity on the water.
