Discover Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné through a range of themes: architectural history, former industries, and routes on foot or by mountain bike. When planning your stay, you can treat historic buildings and outdoor activities as separate focal points—or include both in your plans.

Churches, château and local history

The parish church of Saint-Aubin was built between 1894 and 1899 to plans by the architect Arthur Regnault. Its stone spire is 58 metres high. Separate from this are the remains of an earlier parish church: parts of its nave dating from the 11th century have been preserved in the north wall. These two details offer different historical perspectives on the churches of the town.

The château in Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné has been documented since the 13th century. The west pavilion is dated to a later period: it appears to date from the 17th century. This uncertainty about its date remains important when considering the building's history. Along with the churches, the château offers another starting point for a visit focused on cultural heritage.

The covered market hall also tells the story of the town's architecture. The contract was awarded in 1853, and construction was carried out by the contractor Thominé of Rennes under the direction of the departmental architect Charles Langlois. The former market hall now houses the library. The covered municipal washhouse was completed in 1906 and later restored through an international youth volunteering project.

A different story leads to the site at Le Bois-Roux: three coal-fired lime kilns were built there from 1857 onwards. Production continued until the start of the Second World War. Those interested in the development of former industries will find a distinct point of interest here, alongside the churches, château and market hall.

Walking, cycling and geocaching routes

There are two walking routes: a short 5-kilometre loop and a longer one of 17.3 kilometres. The different distances make it easier to choose how far you want to go. Two mountain bike routes are also listed, covering 19 and 27 kilometres; both follow route number 22. Route details may change, so it is recommended that you check them again before setting out.

There is also a biodiversity trail beside the municipal pond, with information panels introducing local flora and fauna. It is 1.5 kilometres long; the estimated duration is 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the elevation gain is 10 metres. The trail is accessible to everyone. These details give you a practical guide for planning your time, while the panels draw attention to the local natural environment. Here too, you should check the route details before your visit.

Another activity is the “La forêt d’Arthur” geocaching route. It includes visits to churches in Liffré, Gosné and Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné. The recommended ways to get around are by car or bicycle. This route offers a different way to explore the churches from a visit focused on the historic buildings in Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné.

Weekly market and getting there

A weekly market takes place at Place des Halles every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If the market is important to your plans, check the opening times again before your trip.
