Plerguer offers several ways to explore during a stay: church and monastic history, the La Pierre du Domaine menhir, the landscape around Étang de Beaufort, as well as local produce and events. Depending on whether you are more interested in architectural history, waterways or local offerings, you can focus on different aspects.
Church architecture and sacred history
The Sainte-Trinité-Saint-Augustin Church was built from 1856 to 1862 to a design by the architect Béziers-Lafosse. Its Flamboyant Gothic style and three naves describe different aspects of the building: its architectural classification and the layout of the church interior. The construction period, the architect’s name and the building’s form give those interested in local history concrete points of reference.
Another historical reference is the former Priory of Saint-Pétreuc in the village of Saint-Pétreuc. It was once dependent on Le Tronchet Abbey. The chapel of the former priory was secularised. The church and the priory thus represent different aspects of sacred history: the design of a church building and the former connection between a priory and an abbey.
Menhir and landscape
La Pierre du Domaine is a menhir in Plerguer, in the French département of Ille-et-Vilaine. The monolith is 4.12 metres high, made of fine-grained granite and shaped like a square obelisk. It was listed as a historic monument in 1889. Its height, material and shape make this stone monument’s description specific.
The Notre-Dame de Beaufort monastery is located in Plerguer, in the heart of a forest, and overlooks Étang de Beaufort. The Biez-Jean offers a different connection to water: it is one of the small rivers in the area around Plerguer that flow into the English Channel. The two connections are quite distinct: at the monastery, the view of a pond takes centre stage, while the Biez-Jean is notable for the direction in which a small river flows.
Crafts, products and events
The Notre-Dame de Beaufort monastery offers the production of liturgical vestments, a jam-making workshop and a shop with a bookshop and religious items. The shop and workshop arrangements may change. If these offerings are important to your plans, check what is available before your trip.
At Cidre Sorre, visitors can sample cider and apple juice free of charge. A film about the history and work of the business is also available. The shop sells regional products and traditional tableware such as bolées and pitchers. Confirm before your trip whether the tasting and film are available; the shop’s selection may also change.
The Plerguer Market takes place every Wednesday in 2026, from 7 January to 30 December. Local products are sold directly and through short supply chains, including vegetables, cheese, fish, flowers and crafts. The mix of stalls may vary. If you are travelling after 30 December 2026, check whether the weekly market will continue.
The Fête des Badious takes place annually at Trinity, but its date varies. This is a helpful distinction when planning your trip: a fixed Wednesday schedule is given for 2026, while the festival date cannot be set to the same date each year. The L'Évasion library in Plerguer is part of the Les Bibliothèques du Mesnil network. The L'Étrier de Plerguer equestrian centre offers riding activities ranging from leisure riding to competitive sport.
