Lécousse’s history can be seen in very different places: manor houses preserve individual architectural features, a paper mill tells the story of work in the past, and a historic house still stands in Le Pont despite later alterations. This heritage is complemented by present-day cultural offerings and routes of varying scope. You can tailor your trip to your interests, whether that means architecture, events, a cycling tour or a local connecting route.

Manor Houses and Preserved Features

The construction of Le Manoir manor house is dated to 1598. The former manor complex included a residence, a chapel, a barn, a stable and a cellar. Only a few remains survive today. The site’s history therefore encompasses both a manor house with a known date and the larger complex to which it once belonged—of which only remnants remain.

The building at Vilherbue manor house dates from the 16th century; its entrance door and fireplace have been preserved in a later building. In the hamlet of Le Pont, a house dating from the late 16th or early 17th century has survived despite alterations. Its features include a moulded round-arched doorway and a moulded window. The examples differ not only in date, but also in what has survived: at Le Manoir, remains of a larger complex; at Vilherbue, individual features in a later building; and at Le Pont, a house with historic details.

La Porcherie has also preserved architectural details. The converted building includes a cellar and a residence. Its surviving features include a window with a projecting moulded sill, a fireplace with fluted decoration and a door lintel. The lintel bears the inscription “M R. G I / B. I. FLOC / 1613”.

The Pont aux Ânes Paper Mill

The Pont aux Ânes paper mill stands on the right bank of the Nançon. It was already operating in the early 17th century. It later fell into disrepair, was purchased in 1976 and fully restored. Its history thus brings together early industrial use, decline and restoration. Unlike the preserved features of the manor houses, the focus here is the development of a former place of work.

Cultural Offerings in Lécousse

The Médiathèque has a space for exhibitions and events throughout the year. Individual programmes may change. The exhibition hall at Espace Irène Frain is open to artists from the region who wish to present their work there; the programme may also change. The two venues therefore offer different opportunities: an exhibition and event space at the Médiathèque, and a hall where regional artists can show their work.

A flower-arranging workshop is held six times a year at Espace Irène Frain. Adults can also take cardboard craft classes there, consisting of five sessions; class dates may change. At the sports complex, Salle Goéland is designated for martial arts and judo, although the activities on offer may change. If you’d like to include a workshop or class in your travel plans, it’s best to check the latest dates in advance. This will help you distinguish offerings with a set number of sessions—such as the five-session cardboard craft class—from one-off events like a flower-arranging workshop.

La Régalante and the Promenade Verte

A municipal description from April 2024 shows the tourist cycling route La Régalante passing through part of Lécousse, along the former railway line. It gives the total length as 275 kilometres between Mont-Saint-Michel and Nantes. As route infrastructure can change, check the current route before setting off.

A description from April 2024 identifies Montaubert School and Chemin du Martray as the two points connected by the Promenade Verte. Its route may also change, so check the details before setting out. The route descriptions have different emphases: La Régalante is presented in terms of its destinations beyond the local area and its total length, while the Promenade Verte connects two local landmarks.
