Discover Chartres-De-Bretagne through its nature, local history and culture. At Lormandière, diverse plant life meets the history of a former industrial site; the Boucle de la Seiche offers a different perspective, following the river’s meanders. At Pôle Sud, the focus is on a cultural programme that changes with the seasons. To plan your visit, it is worth choosing your focus first: a trail and its natural or historical themes, a look at medieval craftsmanship, or cultural events on specific dates.

Nature and industrial history at Lormandière

The former Lormandière industrial site is home to 500 plant species, including more than 20 rare species and orchids. An educational trail explores the history of the site and its lime kilns. Lormandière therefore offers different points of interest: its diverse plant life and the historical significance of the lime kilns. The discovery trail at Lormandière takes about an hour on average. Stops and conditions can affect the actual duration, so use this as a guide for planning your time, not as a fixed walking time.

Trails and leisure park

The Boucle de la Seiche runs south of Chartres-De-Bretagne along the Seiche’s meanders and returns to the leisure park via the Chemin de la Mine. Compared with Lormandière, the focus here is on the river and the named return route; at Lormandière, the emphasis is on plant life and the history of the site and its lime kilns. Check trail conditions before setting out.

The Parc de Loisirs has wooden play equipment, a boules court, a fitness trail and a picnic area. Natural meadows around the two ponds support wild-growing plants and the wildlife associated with them. Château de la Mécanique is a nature-oriented playground in the heart of the Parc de Loisirs. Leisure facilities may change, so check their current status before your visit.

Crafts and culture

Medieval pottery workshops dating from the 11th to the 14th century have been excavated in the fortified village of Fontenay. This adds medieval pottery to the history of the former Lormandière industrial site: the two places offer different perspectives on local history.

Pôle Sud brings together a general-purpose event hall, an art gallery dedicated to photography, a media library, and visual arts and theatre workshops for children and young people. For 30 years, it has offered a multidisciplinary programme featuring music, dance, comedy and theatre, as well as numerous events for young audiences. As the programme changes with each season, check the specific dates when planning a visit.

Getting to Pôle Sud

Pôle Sud can be reached by bus routes 91, 72 and 172ex and has on-site parking. Check bus services and access options before travelling. If the cultural programme is to determine your travel dates, you can check the seasonal events first, then decide which nature or history themes to include in your stay.
