A gentle circular walk, a late-medieval complex and a climbing site offer different ways to enjoy a stay in Tréméven. The Boucle de Saint-Jacques is 5.8 kilometres long and is described as an easy circular route taking about two hours to walk. It passes through the Leff valley. This time is an approximate guide; trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out.
Chapelle Saint-Jacques and its furnishings
Together with its fountain and calvary, the Chapelle Saint-Jacques forms a distinctive late-medieval liturgical complex at a crossroads of pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela and the Tro-Breizh. Its architecture features dressed stone in the Romanesque style and in the flamboyant Gothic style. Inside are numerous polychrome wooden statues and a Baroque altarpiece. These features can be distinguished by their context: dressed stone and styles describe the architecture, while the statues and altarpiece are interior furnishings. A decree dated 24 April 1909 designated the chapel as a protected French historic monument. The Fontaine Saint-Jacques consists of a granite niche; above a water basin stands a statue of Saint James.
Circular route and mill history
The Boucle de Saint-Jacques passes by the Moulin du Dossen. The historical reference to the Moulin de Coëtmin concerns a different mill: it was equipped with a wooden wheel powered by the flow of water from the Leff. The specific route and an earlier use of the river’s water power are thus two distinct aspects.
Climbing at the Tréméven site
The Tréméven climbing site is considered a beginner area suitable for learning to lead climb. The climbing wall is between 17 and 20 metres high and offers a total of 200 metres of climbing routes. In the introductory sector, routes are graded from 4a to 6a. The figures refer to different measurements: 17 to 20 metres is the wall height, 200 metres is the total length of the routes, and 4a to 6a are the grades in the introductory sector.
Hiking or climbing?
The information provides different points of reference for choosing between the activities. For the Boucle, the focus is on distance and approximate walking time; for climbing, wall height, route length and grades set the parameters. This lets you compare an easy circular walk with a clearly stated duration against a climbing offering with specified grades.
The Leff: fish, fishing and canoe trips
The Leff near Tréméven is primarily home to brown trout; Atlantic salmon also visit the river. Local conditions may vary. In the area around Tréméven, Atlantic salmon fishing is permitted from March to October, subject to special regulations. Check the rules before setting out. Brown trout and salmon characterise the Leff’s fish fauna; the March-to-October period, however, applies specifically to salmon fishing. Canoe trips are also possible on the Leff. If you are considering a trip, check access and arrangements locally.
